Ask any urbanite and she will tell you that she owns an outrageous amount of black clothing and at some point, buying items in black becomes subconscious. For those who do not accessorize in the right way, it is only inevitable that they will look like they are attending a funeral every day of the week.

I spotted this Fashionista on F Street over the weekend sporting this inky ensemble topped by warm neutral accessories. Although simple, this outfit speaks volumes to this Fashionista’s style and personality. Her J Brand Coated Stealth Power Stretch Jeans are a great play on black leggings or basic skinny jeans, and the unique texture is a great way to show off your legs. If you haven’t heard of StyleMint, you must stop what you are doing and sign up for Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen’s membership-only e-commerce site that offers amazing T-shirts. This Fashionista is rocking the Miller Circle Top with a scoop neck that doubles as a great canvas to accessorize with fun jewelry. If you’re not a fan of scoop necks and find v-necks to be more flattering, Soft Joie’s Delphine Top is a great alternative.

An all-black base is simple, yet very chic, provides the perfect opportunity to overindulge in fun jewelry and patterned accessories. This Fashionista rocks Tory Burch’s classic leather cuff (the Python Embossed is a personal favorite), a JewelMint ring and a beaded necklace. If the studs on the leather cuff are a little too rocker for your taste, Tory Burch’s Multi Jeweled Leather Cuff is just as stylish, but with a high fashion essence. To emphasize the beauty of the cuff, the rest of your accessories should be similar in color but varied in texture. The Gorjana Chloe Shimmer Ring paired with Juliet & Company’s Classic Long Pearl Necklace are both light, but also bring out the detailed embellishment in the cuff.

This Fashionista topped off her outfit with a grey pashmina shawl and leopard flats from the prestigious Belgian Shoes in New York.  Missoni’s Wave Scarf is a great investment piece that can be worn throughout the spring into the early summer. If Belgian Shoes are a bit out of your price range, French Sole makes the Drama Suede Flat in leopard that are a great alternative.

This Fashionista’s fabulous accessories take her outfit from routine to runway and shows that learning to accessorize properly can really make a difference in the way your outfit is perceived. My advice when recreating this look is to first look into your own closet, most likely you already have pieces that would create a great monochromatic base. A pashmina shawl is a great accessory that doesn’t have to be worn with a jacket. So many people hesitate when buying fun jewelry because they feel that they won’t  ever have the chance to wear it or aren’t daring enough to step outside of their comfort zone. As and how you find pieces that catch your eye, pick them up because you never know when you will digging through your jewelry box in need for something different. Why be drab when you can be fab?
