STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keep It Simple

With words like “swagger” being thrown around like cheap confetti at the end of a Drake concert, it’s easy to forget the significance in simplicity when it comes to men’s fashion. As this Fashionisto kindly reminds us, however trends and pop culture may change, classic simplicity cannot be replaced.

He keeps his look streamlined by utilizing an overall clean and unsaturated palette, and channels casual sophistication by pairing a V-neck sweater with slacks. His crisp white collared shirt throws another nod to classic style; his rolled cuffs keep it cool.

One of the most beautiful relationships in a man’s polished look, other than that between a pair of printed socks and a great shoe, is the details in a tie knot peeking out from the top of a V-neck sweater. Endless combinations are possible, and this small focal point can be a great way to show off your unique style. These are just a tiny sampling of my favorites: preppy casual, gingham chic and denim with a charcoal cardigan.

In this outfit, his choice of tie fully pulls the look together. A solid tie would make the look too simple, and any sort of color would take away from his classic aura. The condensed dash pattern, kept consistent with his monochromatic lack-of-color palette, adds visual interest once you get up close and personal.

Simplicity is a powerful tool in showcasing a man’s confidence, and confidence is always sexier than any brand of swagger.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keep it Simple

As temperatures begin to soar this July, the last thing anyone wants is to figure out some complicated outfit that will end up sticking to us and ruining our lunch. While yes, bralettes and high-waisted shorts may be on trend this summer; sometimes all you need is a simple sundress to keep you cool.

This Fashionista was spotted lunching at Americana Manhasset on Long Island in this floral Brandy Melville sundress. The breezy fabric and simple nature of this dress is perfect for those days where the temperature is edging near 100 degrees. There is nothing easier than a sundress in the summer. Originally a European brand, Brandy Melville took the leap across the pond and parked itself in SoHo in New York City. Where it sells one size fits all sundresses similar to this Fashionista’s.

She kept her accessories minimal with stacked necklaces and bracelets. Her miniature “K” charm layered over her Van Cleef and Arpels’ pendant complement one another without weighing her down like the more trendy chunky necklaces can. Her mix and matched bracelets are fun for summer because you can continue to add one on top of the other. My favorite accessory from this Fashionista’s look is her Hublot wristwatch. Even though today most everyone uses a cell phone to tell the time, there is nothing more classic than a simple wristwatch.

Achieving this Fashionista’s look is simple, first I would highly suggest checking out the dresses from Brandy Melville. Gorjana jewelry is perfect for stacking like this Fashionista does with both necklaces and bracelets. Try stacking one of these leather wrap bracelets with this thin cuff bracelet. As for the perfect watch try this Michael Kors one or this TIMEX watch from J. Crew that has a leather strap similar to this Fashionista’s.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keep It Simple

If there is one thing that I have learned from living in the city, summer style doesn’t always have to be too elaborate. When the city is hot, sometimes all you want to do is just throw something on and get on with your day. Of course you still want to look fabulous, but you don’t want to have to make a huge effort to do so right? Fashionistas/os let me introduce you to the maxi dress.

This week’s Fashionista conquers a relaxed beachy feel in her paisley maxi dress and oversized sunnies. Her look is so sophisticated and put together and it is only made up of two pieces! How great is that!

When it comes to keeping your style simple for the summer a maxi dress is the perfect chic and laid-back combination. No matter the occasion, there is a maxi dress calling your name. These are a few of my favorites this season:
1. Free People Hinted Florals Maxi Dress
2. Silence & Noise Open-Back Maxi Dress
3. Urban Renewal Ethnic Print Maxi Tube Dress
4. Painted Silk Maxi Dress

If you choose a fun printed maxi, accessorize like this week’s Fashionista channeling your favorite celebrity with a pair of huge oversized sunglasses. With a simpler solid maxi, add a statement necklace or a handful of bangles. Whether you wear your maxi dress over a bathing suit to the beach or on a walk down the Charles, keep it simple and style your summer look with a maxi dress!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keep it Simple

Simplicity is sometimes thought to mean boring but in fashion, less is always more. Some Fashionistas overdo it with accessories and often forget to let their clothes shine. Classic pieces are the way to pull off a minimalistic look. Tailored shirt dresses, classic button ups, straight leg chinos, and Ray Ban sunglasses are the way to go this season. Not only are these pieces an easy go-to when you want to look stylish, but they’re also chic and sophisticated. Every Fashionista should have at least one of these items in her wardrobe.

This Fashionista has simplicity down pact. She doesn’t have too much going on with her monochromatic outfit, but she still looks great. She turned heads while walking through campus sporting a fabulous shirtdress. The black and white stripes in her Brooks Brothers dress are just enough flair to keep her ensemble interesting yet sophisticated at the same time. She pairs her dress with a pair of peep-toe flats and a Tory Burch satchel, topping it off with Ray-Ban sunglasses. She adds a feminine touch to this menswear inspired look by adding a belt to her waist, showing off her petite figure.

Shirtdresses are very popular in various lines this spring. A simple black or blue dress with a patterned belt is a great way to wear this trend. Pair this combination with a fedora and sandals, and you’ve got the perfect spring break outfit.

To get the look that this CofC Fashionista is rocking, try this dress by BCBG and these flats by Steve Madden. Don’t forget the wayfarer sunglasses either. Try these Knockaround sunglasses, for a cheaper alternative to Ray-Bans.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keep it Simple

Looking to strike an effective entrance at that new summer internship? Dress to impress by keeping it simple.

I love this Fashionista’s fresh and pulled together look, pairing a shallow, plain V-neck tee tucked into a high-waisted, bright pink skirt grazing just above the knee. Not only is this outfit great for comfort in what can be a stressful situation, but it shows your new boss you can be both carefree and office-appropriate.

If you are unsure that baring those feet, like this Fashionista in her white gladiator sandals, will put your best foot forward, try a pair of plain flats or subtle, wedged heels with a closed toe.

Remember to keep your outfit polished for an impression that is simply fabulous!
