While this semester is coming to an end, it doesn’t mean your style should suffer studying before finals week Fashionistas! From personal experience, I know it sometimes may feel like your outfit options are dwindling down and well, there really is nothing left to where. Since the weather on campus has been nicer than usual lately, one trend has made its way for the warmer months: Lace.
This week’s Fashionista knows how to perfect her lacey look. She used it to add some feminine charm to her blue jeans. Her lace inspired look comes from her aspiration to be the most stylish girl on Capital Hill after graduation. Usually lace inspired clothing is found in a crème color, but the rose color variation on her top is a nice touch to her dark washed jeans and brown tall boots. This outfit is all about the small details, like her stud crème rose earrings that coordinate perfectly with the top. This Fashionista is bound to make a stylish entrance into D.C.
Her outfit specifically might be better worn for a chillier day, but to go an alternative route on the lace trend that’s springier is a piece of cake. No matter what you pair lace with, it adds a girlish touch to any outfit. NASTY GAL is my go-to place for all things lace, especially since their lace items can range from very feminine to bohemian. For that girlish vibe, the Daydream lace skirt and Laced tie top are essentials. The Mimi Lace Dress is a necessity for that bohemian look and for everything in between those styles, check out the lace page for more. Try sticking to crèmes and pinks for the day to get a softer season prone appearance.
Lace needs no introduction. It’s a timeless fabric that can be worked a million different ways, and it's used as detailing on everything from pure white wedding dresses to seductive black underwear. It comes as no surprise that in fall 2011 runway shows, lace was a popular fabric choice among many top designers. However, in shows such as Lanvin, Jason Wu, and Dolce and Gabbana, lace was elevated from being used for detailing to the only fabric of entire pieces, and – in some cases – entire looks.
The delicate yet complex look of lace translates to campus well. This fashionista pairs chic white lace shorts with a cotton coral tank, a gold feather necklace, and brown flats, making for a casual and class-appropriate look with just enough flair. To emulate this look, check out a similar pair of white lace shorts by Asos, or brown Free People shorts for sale now on ShopBop.
Are shorts not your thing? Don’t worry about it. There are a million other lace products out there right now that are also great for school. I recommend Marc by Marc Jacobs’ black lace romper, Joie’s white lace top, or Topshop’s pleated lace tunic (for more formal affairs). Looking at these options, there’s no denying that lace makes any silhouette look a little bit prettier, and adds a girlish and fun feel to otherwise routine looks. Don't wait another second, it's time to lace up!
This summer, I’ve struggled to create an outfit that adapts to Berkeley’s changing weather patterns. Every day begins overcast with some rain, usually ending with clear skies. Like most Fashionistas, I’ve encountered difficulties with dressing fashionable yet comfortable. Luckily, I stumbled upon this Fashionista to help me in my struggles.
This Fashionista strutted past Sather Gate in an outfit prepared for any weather situation. Her dark blazer provides warmth and sophistication, creating a classy look. Matching her blazer, her black military boots provide contrast and ensures she doesn’t look too professional while simultaneously protecting her feet from the rain. But, her black lace skirt is what caught my eye, making her stand out in a crowd of passing students. Lace items are usually only worn for formal occasions but now have become entwined into our daily wardrobes.
Lace has been traditionally associated with wedding bells, but fashion has shifted away from this previous notion. Designers and Fashionistas now use lace in many colors and patterns. For the best look, try a neutral color, and pair it with bright accessories to accentuate the lace’s pattern and the outfit’s simplicity. If you decide to make a bold statement by wearing a daring color or pattern, make sure to keep your outfit’s other components simple.
Designers everywhere have implemented lace into their lines and made this look attainable. French Connection offers a unique blue pencil skirt for special occasions while Forever 21 offers a variety of lace selections for your summer wardrobe.
Despite the abysmal weather conditions forcing us to don rain boots, coats and a melancholy attitude, you can always brighten up your outfit and day with some lace.
This season’s fabric of choice has been lace. The delicate, light, and flimsy material is perfect for the Florida weather, which can be quite sweltering. The precious design is feminine, flirty, and fun! Depending on the vibe you choose, the overall look can be very versatile. A lace pattern is flexible enough and great to wear to a range of events from class, to a café, or even a concert.
I quickly spotted this week’s Fashionista on the Gainesville campus as I made my way towards my internship. I really enjoyed how the overall look was seemingly casual but also classic and well developed. This Fashionista’s style is ultra inspiring for University of Florida students as it is comfortably chic and very suitable for campus wear. Her flowery and flowing lace tank top bodes well with her black leggings. Lastly, these metallic gold sandals complement the neutral look.
Urban Outfitters has a fantastic selection, both trendy and classic, featuring this coveted lace pattern. For the more adventurous crowd, I recommend this long-sleeved lace top. For the more demure, check out this delicate crochet tank top that features a wonderful intricate lace embellishment on the back. If you just want to layer with lace, this cardigan is a grand addition to any outfit. Finally, to transition into nighttime and for an edgier concert look, try this bold black scoop lace dress.
Fellow Fashionistas of Florida and beyond, summer is here. The sun is out and it’s only wise to embrace the leisure and luxuries of the season. Lace up!
