STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Let Fur Take Over

While walking in the bitter cold and snow covered campus its hard to express a true fashion statement while bundling up. Even if your great outfit may be hiding under your warm winter coat, there is no excuse not to look fashionable and stay warm at the same time. I caught this Fashionista walking to class proving playing it safe is never fun. Her fur hat she is rocking immediately caught my attention as a playful yet practical accessory for winter weather. This Fashionista found her fur hat in Germany and pairs it with a brown corduroy trench coat. Being a huge fan and loyal wearer of trench coats myself I loved it immediately and admired how it was a new spin on the classic trench in corduroy. She paired this outfit with warm black leggings, military inspired combat boots from Target and an oversized change purse cross body bag. Her brown gloves and scarf are also extremely practical and play into the color scheme of her jacket perfectly.

Another one of my favorite things about this outfit is it breaks the rumored rule of not mixing brown and black. Nina Garcia says “The most fabulous style icons are those women who know what the rules are and have the confidence to ignore them,” shes says “never wear black with brown or navy is rubbish, black with brown, navy or gray is a thoroughly modern twist on classic dressing”. This Fashionista not only embraces this well but also adds little punches of color to her neutral palate by accessorizing with her bold earrings and turquoise bag.

On the fall 2010 runway fur hats were sported at J. Mendel, Elie Tahari, and of course at the overwhelming amount of fur on the Chanel runway. Fur has always been a more high fashion look that is finally making its way to casual wear with the vast appearances of fur vests this season. If you‘re looking to take the fur trend to the next level, try a runway inspired hat like this Fashionista to keep you warm on your way to class while keeping with the runways latest trends.
