STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lovely In Lace

Summer is quickly coming to an end as the leggings and boots of the chilly fall season are just around the corner. But before the Fashionistas of summer put away any of their go-to looks, I was able to snap a couple more of my favorite summertime fashions.

Lace was all over the streets and the red carpet this summer from romantic and delicate to boho chic, and in every color and style imaginable. Celebrities like Kate Bosworth, Emmy Rossum and Kristen Stewart have all been sighted in the feminine style and it has definitely made its way to the streets and the Fashionistas that roam them.

For a while I thought of lace as matronly and outdated, but it's made a comeback in a major way. The semi-translucent, form-fitting qualities can be both classy yet mysterious, and figure flattering all at the same time; all very important qualities to women.

One of my personal favorite items, and one of the most popular trends, lace shorts have been popping up everywhere and in all sorts of ways. This Fashionista donned a classy pair of lace shorts that worked perfectly with her navy blouse for a preppy summer style. Necessary Clothing has a variety of these lace shorts but I especially love cream pair with a sleeveless blouse tucked in. Free People has their own take on this trend with a pair of denim shorts that are trimmed in lace for a feminine touch.

So whether you’re going with just a bit of lace or you’ve fallen in love with an all lace ensemble, it’s time to get the most out of these looks now before fall’s chilly bite steps in!

  1. One thing I have actually noticed is that there are plenty of myths regarding the financial institutions intentions whenever talking about home foreclosure. One misconception in particular is the fact the bank needs to have your house. The lender wants your dollars, not your home. They want the funds they gave you together with interest. Staying away from the bank is only going to draw any foreclosed realization. Thanks for your publication.

Lace, lace and more lace! These sexy little designs take an ordinary dress to extraordinary. Like this Fashionista, just a layer of lace kicked her dress a notch up making it dressy, professional, and delicate. The mix matched lining and lace gave her entire outfit a soft feministic hue, with the blush pink shinning from underneath.

Because this Fashionista’s dress is lace, the silhouette can be simple and still absolutely fabulous. The lace gives the dress a fancy and finished overall look, making it a breeze to style. This Fashionista topped off her outfit with a watch and silver sandals. Perfect for the summer months when you have to quickly run out of the house for a lunch date or a for an easy office outfit. Every girl needs a great little lacy in her closet.

If ever there was a material that encapsulated romanticism and femininity, that material would be lace. The use of lace in clothing dates back centuries, to the times of damsels in distress, knights in shining armour and the most beautiful corseted gowns. The timelessness of lace is what has allowed it to transcend eras and to be reinvented and reincorporated into modern clothing. You have to look no further than this summer’s ready-to-wear runway shows by Oscar de la Renta, Valentino and Alexander McQueen to see how true this is.

Needless to say, this Fashionista caught my eye due to her modern take on this timeless trend. Her sleeveless lace crop top is adorable in its own rite, but the addition of a collar gives it a crisp modern look. Similar tops can be found at Forever 21 and Topshop. For a more contrasted lace look, a white lace top with black collar and trim is a great alternative!

Despite its cutesy look, lace isn’t just for the girly. For a lace look with more edge, opt for a black lace top paired with a black leather jacket. For a night out, wear a form-fitting lace-back dress. The possibilities are endless. However, remember that the design in lace often tends to be intricate and complex, so avoid over-accessorizing — let the beauty of the fabric make its own statement!

This Fashionista is also showcasing the colored denim trend, with some added sparkle to her step in a pair of black Steve Madden loafers. What’s missing? The bane of every college student’s style: the backpack. But this Fashionista wasn’t about to let a backpack get in her way. With hues of maroon, white and black, her backpack effortlessly completed her outfit, tying her whole look together.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lovely In Lace

There are few fabrics more ladylike than lace — It’s the fabric of doilies and wedding gowns, which pretty much makes it scream “I am a woman.” But even though lace can be prim and proper, and even though it tends to make anyone who puts on the fabric look instantly older and more polished, that doesn’t mean it can’t be cool. Lace can be super cool, my friends. Especially when it comes in crazy colors and cool fabrics. Lace can be almost as cool as studs or leather. Just, you know, more ladylike.

Take this week’s Fashionista, for example. She rocks a layered, scalloped lace top in a pale pink. It would be difficult to find a more refined and ladylike garment. But instead of letting her prim and proper side dominate the look, this Fashionista brings in the funk with bright turquoise pants for an outfit filled with color and contrast.

And bringing in a splash of color is only one of the many ways to make lace a little less grandma and a little more gangsta. You could also pair a bright bandeau under a sheer lace tank for an unexpected peek of skin when you’re out on the town. Or top a pair of jean cut-offs with a structured lace top for a refreshing contrast of rough and refined. Feeling a little out of the ordinary? Move the lace to your lower half with a pair of lace shorts; topped with a chambray shirt, it’s the perfect outfit for a summer dinner.

Whatever you do, don’t dismiss lace as the fabric found in excess in nursing homes. Instead see it as an incredibly chic and versatile option that you can mold to suit any outfit. Plus, it’s the perfect fabric for spring and summer. As I always say, lace has built-in air conditioning — no one’s mad about that!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lovely In Lace

I picked this Fashionista for her gorgeous and girlie lace skirt. Not only do I admire the femininity of this outfit, but I also am a huge fan of this black and cream color combination. It is a super simple outfit, but after a second look you realize the detail in the skirt. This particular lace pattern includes an alteration between flowers and diamond shapes. Additionally, I love this Fashionista’s black Tory Burch flip flops; a timeless shoe that adds some sophistication to the outfit.

Immediately when I saw this skirt, I thought of the lace skirt and jacket suit that Oscar de la Renta displayed in his spring 2012 runway show. Instead of complimenting cream with black, like our Fashionista, De la Renta flattered his suit with a pale pink blouse. Second to black and cream, you can never miss by pairing those two colors. Furthermore, Marc Jacobs’s collection for Louis Vuitton utilized eyelet lace consisting of a flower pattern. Specifically, the first four looks in this collection remind me of this week’s Fashionista’s outfit. They have sheer lace elements with Marc Jacob’s classic daisy symbol. This week’s Fashionista would fit right in with the models from Oscar de la Renta or Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton’s shows.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lovely In Lace

Lace is something that you don’t see often on campus, and this Fashionista definitely wears it well. This lace top not only sets her apart, but adds an element of sophistication to the overall feel of the look. Normally I wouldn’t be a fan of blue-on-blue, but I really like how the white tank top underneath separates the two pieces.

Urban Outfitters has a lace top to the one that this Fashionista is wearing, at an affordable price. If you’re feeling a bit risky, consider a floral lace top, mixing two trends in one piece.

Make sure when you’re wearing lace not to make it look to conservative or “bridal”, but more casual. Additionally, don’t go to the opposite end of the spectrum and go too casual looking, like you’re simply wearing lingerie.

Lace is so versatile and can be worn throughout the school day, to a formal event or even out with friends and is a definite must-have for any Fashionista’s wardrobe.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lovely in Lace

There is something very sweet and girly about lace. The delicate, yet tantalizingly revealing patterns give glimpses of skin without being overly baring. Depending on how you wear it, lace can give off a flower-child bohemian vibe or more of a preppy feel. Regardless of personal style preference, steer clear of anything that screams “bridal” or “lingerie.” Unless you actually are, you do not want anyone to think you are celebrating your wedding day (or night).   

This past spring and summer we saw lace all over the runways and on the celebrities. Lace dresses in every color imaginable were everywhere. Now that it is fall, do not be too hasty about packing your lacey things away until next spring. Make your outfit fall-ready by steering away from lace dresses and keeping to loose lines. For example, you could pair a delicate top with skinny jeans and leather boots, like this week’s Fashionista. She stays simple with a classic white top. Lace is feminine and romantic, so she goes with lace-up moccasins for more rugged-feeling footwear.

Hint: To try this look for yourself, check out this lace cape from NastyGal. Since the lace is already slightly revealing, stick to loose fits and modest silhouettes. You want to make a statement, not a headline. If you do not want to commit to an entirely lacey article of clothing, I recommend something with a lace back. The backing of this sweater dress is a nice surprise factor. To complement the lace, experiment with contrasting mediums such as denim or a leather jacket.
