STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lovely Layers

You probably already know this considering the amount of leaves scattering campus pavements and endless amount of orange, yellow and red hues catching your attention as you look up to the sky, but I’ll tell you anyways, FALL IS HERE! Yes, it’s finally time to ditch the tees for scarves, cardigans, hats and jackets. And judging by the amount of cuddled up cuties in cozy scarves and bomber jackets I see around campus, it seems like everyone is just as thrilled as I am about the potential layered looks that are about to take over our hallways and enlighten the creative lobe of our brains in the best way possible.

After spotting this Fashionista looking fall appropriate in her layers, I ran home to scour my closet for the perfect button-down, jacket combo to fight Mother Nature’s chilly attacks. It’s obvious that this Fashionista has some serious spunk, but after a second-look at her Pink Floyd tee, I knew she had to be one of the coolest girls on campus. Pairing her vintage top with a denim button-down, leather bomber and black skinnies, this Fashionista puts an edgy spin on a layer infused look. Black, suede wedges, a knotted chain and berry bag are the only accessories needed to complete this Fashionistas outfit.

When the temperature gets frigid it’s easy to throw on a heavier coat, but not nearly as fun! Try pairing an eye-catching cardigan with a graphic tee and fitted jacket like this Fashionista. If you aren’t a fan of the cardigan, try pairing a button-down with a crewneck sweater and oversized coat.

Next time the weather gets chilly don’t fight the change of the season, embrace it with your own innovative twist on layers.

Every CollegeFashionista/o strives to put together an outfit that is both stylish and practical for long days of class, work and — of course — Thirsty Thursdays. The best way to achieve a look that lasts all day long is with versatile layers and fuss free hair.

Check this Fashionista out. There are so many amazing things happening in this look, from the sleek top knot on her head to the platform boots at her toes. Caught on the way to work, she definitely shows us how to dress for a busy schedule. First of all, a top knot is the easiest way to add instant cool to your look and helps you not have to worry about your hair all day long. This Fashionista layered an amazing, thrifted sequined sweater over a floral dress (one of my own favorite go-to basics), which is a great way to get more use out of your low-cut dresses during the day. Super sheer tights and Jeffrey Campbell style platform boots elevate the look from romantic to edgy. Remove the sweater and voilà! You have a sexy chic bar outfit.

Although I love her boots, flats or wedges might work better for running around at school and at work. It’s always a good idea to carry a spare pair of heels on the weekend to be prepared to go out after work. Also carry some lipstick, like Sephora’s classic red, so you can update your makeup for nighttime. This look is incredibly versatile for spring weather, and I don’t know about you guys, but my next sartorial desire is a vintage sweater like hers.

The Boston weather never ceases to amaze me! Every time I think some colder weather is one the way, the Bean pulls a fast one on me and suddenly its fifty out and there is no way I am hauling my heavy coat out with me. When you know what to expect from the weather, planning a chic but smart outfit can be a pain in the butt. But fear not Fashionistas/os, this is the perfect opportunity to perfect your layering, a skill that every Fashionista/o knows is essentially to tackling the perfect look.

When I saw this Fashionista heading to campus, I was instantly inspired by her trendy look. By layering a sweatshirt with a vintage-inspired jean jacket, she totally dresses up her jeans and boots and creates a look that has a ton of attitude and style. To top it all off, I love her tortoise-shell sunnies! This is the type of look that can conquer the day, and it’s all because of her fabulous layers!

I think Mother Nature has been a little confused lately. She’s completely unpredictable. With weeks of visible breath, followed by sweat and sebum scorchers, we’re left changing our outfits every few hours to suit her mood.

This Fashionista has it right. She knows the magic of layers. With a casual tank and cropped jeans, she’s ready for warm weather. Throwing on some androgynous shoes with a heeled hint of sex appeal, and a light bright blazer, she won’t be fooled by Mommy’s tricks. Bringing her brights and darks together with a fuchsia lip and matching Wayfarers, this all-weather treading chick is ready for class.

This vivacious young lady sports Ray-Ban Wayfarers, Girl About Town lipstick by MAC Cosmetics, T by Alexander Wang tank, her mother’s old blazer, Anthropologie pants and shoes from Forever 21.

So grab a bright blazer and pair it with a nice tank and cropped pants—and you’ll be ready for whatever Mother dearest throws at us—be it sun, rain or frost.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lovely Layers

This Fashionista avoids wearing a long down coat through the snowpocalypse by layering a sweater, sweatshirt and jacket. Her tan leather jacket is worn to perfection, has concealed pockets on each side and an attached waist belt, which is surprisingly rare. For quality, Burberry’s line of embellished bomber jackets have been spotted being worn by those of the well photographed echelon. Shearling and leather, again following the lead of Burberry, has been the combination of this winter whether it comes to jackets or boots. ASOS also makes reasonable versions of these sought after styles.

She layers her leather atop of a fur trimmed zip-up sweatshirt, which she wears so the hood pokes out the back. While any leather-sweatshirt combo will work, A.L.C makes a “convertible” jacket that has a sweatshirt built in under the leather.

The Fashionista pictured chose a stripped knit for her bottom most layer. Strips can be found all over the fashion gamut nowadays in just about every style but for a knit like the one pictured try Topshop or Rag and Bone.

The final touch that makes this outfit warm enough to wear in a “wintery mix” is the scarf. Again in a knit, the scarf is an infinity or eternity style. These scarves are large continual circles that can be wrapped around the head more than once. I like this because it keeps the fabric neatly around the neck for optimal warm and minimal fuss. Urban Outfitters carries eternity scarves in a variety of colors and weights. Overall this Fashionista manages to bear the elements without compromising style.

Hint: Choose a sweatshirt (like this Fashionista) with a fur trim to add a little extra pizzazz to your exposed hood.
