STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Maximize Your Possibilities

I've said if before and I'll say it again: maxi dresses and maxi skirts are some of my favorite, most coveted pieces I own right now. Not only are these floor-sweeping hems universally flattering, they are perfect for transitioning seasons, easy to layer, appropriate for many occasions and not to mention, extremely comfortable. So if you're anything like me, stowing away these dresses for fall is simply not an option.

I spotted this Fashionista strolling out of class one morning donning the perfect layering combo. Her bohemian inspired maxi dress was covered up with a chunky knit sweater providing a dose of warmth mixed with comfort for the chilly morning. I love the simplicity these pieces provide. With the patterned dress, she knew to keep the top simple, choosing a sweater similar in color to the green in her dress. The rustic, seventies style colors in her ensemble are point on for trends we'll be seeing this fall and winter.

Maxi dresses come in halter, strapless, long sleeve, V-neck, racerback, and more. With an array of options, I suggest sticking to solid colors for fall (black, grey, rustic red, olive green). While this Fashionista chose a fun patterned version, in order to get the most bang for your buck, I suggest opting for a solid color that you can top off with an overload of accessories, simple flats and a chic layering piece. (Think denim jacket, chunky knit, fur vest and/or scarf.)

Maxi dresses are, without a doubt, worth the investment. This simple piece will provide a variety of new outfits all season long. What's not to love about comfort plus coverage that does not involve sweatpants and a sweatshirt?!
