STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: On The Prowl

A few weeks ago I wrote an article on the growing popularity of prints. One type of print that has been showing up in stores everywhere is animal prints. Animal prints are a fun way to put an edge on any outfit.

This Fashionista chose a hot pink, zebra print zip-up and some black leggings to complement the black accents in the print. She also added a pair of black combat boots to finish off her outfit. She was spot on when she chose to stick with neutrals for the rest of her outfit. Because all animal prints are loud and vibrant, it would make the outfit look too overwhelming if there was another loud and vibrant piece. This is why I would suggest to not adding any pieces of jewelry that are too chunky or have too many colors. When wearing animal prints, it’s all about keeping it simple. Just remember, less is more!

There are many different kinds of animal prints different than this Fashionista’s zebra print. For example, you can also rock multiple types of cheetah print and crocodile print. This J.Crew Perfect Shirt is a great way to add some edge to a simple piece of clothing that you probably already wear. Add this J.Crew Pencil Skirt and some ballet flats and you have the perfect work or presentation outfit! These alice + olivia Print Skinny Jeans also caught my eye. Crocodile print is not too common but alice + olivia decided to add it to multiple pieces in their line.

Add a little edge to your daily wardrobe and try on some animal prints yourself!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: On The Prowl

Animal print has transformed from a trend to a staple in recent years. It is surprisingly versatile because it is made up of neutral tones. While leopard print is not anything new, it can be revamped in lighter fabrics for the summertime. Other animal prints can also provide visual interest in accessories.

I spotted this Fashionista having fun with spots in her adorable, airy leopard print blouse and dark rinse denim cut-off shorts.

In order to create a look inspired by this Fashionista all your own, one needs an animal print item whether it be a chiffon sleeveless button up in a leopard print or an exciting pair of loose-fitting shorts. Next, pair the print with neutral shades such as black or white. A pair of white denim shorts  or a fitted peplum black skirt would be perfect with a leopard print top. A leopard print bottom would look perfect with a white button up or a simple black tank top

Another way to add prints to your wardrobe is through some fun, but wearable accessories. A pair of strappy sandals in a leopard print is perfect for both day and night. A leopard print scarf is cute for cooler nights and is an easy way to dress up or down an outfit.

Snake print is a good option because of its versatility. It offers an outfit texture and visual interest. A clutch in a python print can easily spice up any outfit. A pink snake print dress can be paired with a jean jacket for an easy night out. Also a pair of snake print wedges would be a great way to mix animal print into your wardrobe.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: On the Prowl

Animal prints have recently proved to be a ruthless fashion trend. Appearing in the form of leopard and cheetah spots, zebra stripes and reptile prints, these designs have transformed our world into an urban jungle. From shoes to clutches and even printed pants, the trend is a stampede.

Today’s Fashionista knows how to tastefully control that stampede. When wearing animal patterns, one must highlight the print and leave all else simple. Keeping her canvas basic with an oversized black sweater and sleek black skinny jeans, this Fashionista spotlights the animal craze with a leopard scarf around her neck. The juxtaposition of neutral black with a bold print draws appropriate, not overwhelming, attention to the trend.

For daytime, I suggest keeping the animal print subtle and using it in small doses as this Fashionista does. Here, accessories become your best friend. Scarves, ballet flats, belts and even jewelry are effortless additions to your current wardrobe. Toss them on with even the most basic pair of jeans and a white tee and you’ll appear fashion savvy in an instant.

Yet when daytime passes, let these animals come out to play. This season, a bodycon dress in leopard print is a must. By keeping the length just above the knee and the neckline rather high, one can channel this trend with the appropriate mix of sophistication and allure (the print itself suggests you’re on the prowl). Pair this sheath with black heels and a nude lip and you’ll be the cat’s meow at any party you attend.

So if you’re ready to pounce on this craze, follow one simple rule: keep all else basic and let the animals do the talking.

…You can be sure everyone will hear you roar.
