STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Oxford Shoes

When first seeing the trend of Oxford shoes, I did not quite understand it. They reminded me more of a higher end-bowling shoe that only super chic hipsters could pull off such as Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller could pull off. As they started circling from the blogs I read to the streets I realized that these ”high-end bowling shoes” could easily be considered the new ballet flats with their ability to be versatile with almost any outfit. I caught this Fashionista outside of Driscoll Hall and was instantly attracted to her ability to pull of the oxford shoe look in such an effortlessly stylish fashion.

So for some reason I have been attracted to the menswear look this past season, it may even be an over kill.  I am not sure why or if I can even pull of the trend in general but there seems to be more options than ever to pull this off. There are many different approaches to master the art of the oxford shoe. These also seem to be the next masculine trend after the boyfriend jeans and blazer craze. These shoes can also be itemed with another masculine item or being dabbed in many different looks such as the casual, office, elegant or preppy style.

This Fashionista’s oxford shoes mostly cultivated to the casual look. Her skinny jeans, Free People top and sweater helped draw attraction to the oxfords and would be in agreement with the statement that these oxford shoes are in replacement of the beloved ballet flats.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Oxford

The oxford shoe, also known as “Brogues”, is the perfect recipe for a vintage polished look for Fashionistas. Traditionally, oxfords were made for men’s formal wear but nowadays men and women wear them for any occasion. Because of the oxfords’ trademark lace up tie, which serve to keep your feet from slipping out of the shoe, they are comfortable and fashionable, which can be hard thing to come by these days. Whether you want to dress-up or dress-down, the wide array of oxford shoes can be used to add a vintage twist to any outfit.

The versatility of oxfords is one of the main reasons why they have become so popular, but they have also become a new rage because they play on with the popular boyfriend trend. This fashionista’s outfit displays a pair of worn brown leather oxfords. The masculine and western rustic appeal of the shoes tied in with her dark plaid pea coat and skinny jeans capture the winter vintage vibe of this outfit. Although she pulls off the boyish look splendidly, to avoid looking boyish there are other types of oxford shoes to choose from.

You can’t go wrong with a pair of oxford high heels. They are classic shoes that go perfect in any kind of formal situation. Peep-toed oxford shoes are yet another twist to the oxford that add a particularly feminine characteristic.

Wear these shoes with tights and a floral dress and you will have a delicate girly outfit for both day and night.
