STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Playing with Colors

Obviously spring is the season for bright colors, but color blocking calls for eye catching combinations of vivid, solid colors. Color blocking is simple and has very few guidelines. All you need to do is pick bold contrasting color items and pair them together. If you would rather avoid looking like a rubrik’s cube than you can subtly rock this trend by sticking to 2—3 colors from the same family. Colors with a similar palette give you a harmonious color blocking outfit. Popular pairs of colors designers like Gucci, Alexandre Herchcovitch and Miu Miu are using in their spring/summer runway shows are pink/orange, blue/green and red/blue. This Fashionista charmingly combined one of my favorite spring colors  mint green with a royal purple bustier tank top and vibrant kelly green shorts.

Color blocking isn’t just a trend on its own; it also can be incorporated into different styles and trends. This Fashionista pulled off a preppy look by wearing her Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes and her Longchamp tote. Color blocking is also great if you want to wear a modish outfit for a formal event or you can use neutral, earthy tones to create a '70s flare.

Don’t forget to include your shoes and handbags in this fashion trend! Jessica Simpson has a great pair of color blocked pumps that would be perfect for any party occasion and Yves Saint Laurent chic color block tote is certainly a must have for this summer.
