STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pollock Inspired Clothing

We all have worn smocks to art class in order to protect our precious clothing. If we got a single speck of acrylic paint on our pants it would be the end of the world. However after spotting this Fashionista, it made me reconsider wearing a smock to art class. Channel your inner Jackson Pollock and dare to sport a painterly piece of clothing. Christopher Kane’s Resort 2013 collection featured dresses with painted details, which created a beautiful print. Of course being an Art History major and a fan of making art myself, I loved these dresses and this Fashionista’s shorts.

This Fashionista is rocking the summer staple: a pair of high-waisted denim shorts. Her pair is made unique by the subtle splatters scattered across the pants. Hers are from Urban Outfitters, but there is serious DIY possibility here. Check out this tutorial from Refinery 21 on how to splatter jeans and also a pair of oxford shoes. Another idea of mine would be to use bleach instead of paint on denim for a less colorful, but equally cool statement. Back to the Fashonista’s outfit: she adds a blousy top in a vibrant summer hue that picks up the delicate paint splatter of the shorts. A pair of chic ballet flats keeps the look polished and simple.

If you’re too afraid to take the splatter paint into your own hand with a DIY project, try adding in accessories like these stellar pair of pumps from ALDO. The bright colors and sexy ankle strap will be sure to spice up any outfit.
