STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Poppy Hues, Neutral Shoes

June is without a doubt my favorite month. With a significant amount of stress off of our plates and summer officially here, life slows down a bit and a certain degree of calm and carefreeness subconsciously entraps us all not only in our actions but in our choices as well, specifically those that concern our everyday outfits. With a minimalist approach, many wise Fashionistas are trading loud prints and clunky accessories for more whimsical and loose-fitting pieces contrasted with fitted denim and chic neutral wedges, demonstrating that over-thinking our looks and piling on unnecessary embellishments is so last season.

This Fashionista pairs a fitted clementine colored top with a flowy muted tone vest, which adds pizazz and functionality to the look. Poppy hues add an enticing glimmer of color and enhance and balance this summer look, rather than darker colors which can look drab and washed out, especially when competing with a similar bottom silhouette. Invest in a great pair of 5-pocket skinny jeans to liven up your bottom half. I love Genetic Denim's Shane Cigarette Jeans as they are perfectly fitted at the waist and are made of lightweight denim, making them practical in any condition. If you are on a budget, try BDG's Black and Blue Skinny Jean made of spandex and cotton, perfect fabrics geared towards movability while still giving the same structured look. To top everything off, splurge on a strappy pair of wedges in a neutral tone like tan or black to accent the entire look while giving the illusion of a longer leg as well. I am obsessed with Diane von Furstenberg's Opal Crisscross Wedge Sandals and Cynthia Vincent's Cognac Wedge Sandals, made exclusively for her Target line.

Veer outside of the box this summer with colors you wouldn't normally wear and step it up a notch from last season's gladiator into this seasons wedge. Don't worry about wearing a color because you think you have to (just because it is Fourth of July, for example, doesn't mean you need to wear Red, White, or Blue.) Just wear what feels right and let the season influence this. Think hues that are reminiscent of flowers in full bloom, ocean blues, ripe fruit, fireworks, and whatever other similar images come to mind when imagining summer. With this in consideration as you shop and style yourself, you will without a doubt spruce up your wardrobe and make yourself and others smile. And haven't you heard? Smiles are so this season.
