STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pour on the French Dressing

The temperatures just don’t want to heat up around here. However, one of the most well-known ways to keep warm against the biting cold is by wearing a hat. Hats are not only functional; they are quite chic, especially like the one this week’s Fashionista wears. Her cloche hat channels the 1920s while also framing her face and complementing her entire ensemble.

Italian-born artist, Amedeo Clemente Modigliani, did most of his work in France; his portrait of Jeanne Hebuterne wearing a cloche definitely proves how striking the look can be. A similar look can be found on Urban Outfitters’ website.

Angelina Jolie also channeled the ‘20s by donning a slew of different and uniquely ornate cloches in the 2008 film, Changeling. Many cloches today are feminine and demurely flirty. However, if the bows and ribbons on traditional cloches aren’t your thing, a studded cloche from Tarnish adds a punk-rock and updated edge to the vintage-inspired look.

This week’s Fashionista wears a polka-dotted dress, tights, and over-the knee boots to complement her tan cloche. To get the look, Marc Jacobs offers a similar dress.

Whether you’re going for a French-inspired look or just trying to keep warm, cloches are a great accessory to invest in now while they are on sale because they were recently displayed on the fall 2011 runways!  Designers like Douglas Hannant displayed an array of cloches from bejeweled  to basic.
