STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Professional Sparkle

So you just learned that the dress code for this week's event is "business casual." Shoot, you think, what do I wear? If you're a gal, you may contemplate your black Editor pants versus your dark rinse trouser jeans. If you're a guy, you might ask yourself whether or not to sport a tie for the occasion. Business casual is such a loosely used term it's hard to define until you know exactly what you're dressing for.

This Fashionista's look is perfect for the professional classroom. Sometimes a course may require its students to present a project to the rest of the class. As we've all learned one time or another, your look is important to the impression you give to your professor and, ultimately, to your grade. Dark rinse denim has always been at the dressier side of the denim spectrum and looks great paired with a ruffled silk blouse.

Over the winter we saw sequins everywhere – from blazers to leggings. This Fashionista transitioned that trend into a more practical look with a sequined top under a boxy boyfriend blazer. Redesigned boyfriend blazers have been popping up everywhere lately and are becoming a staple piece inspired by the '80s. Like any staple piece, boyfriend blazers can be dressed up or dressed down over an LBD (Little Black Dress).

Finally, remember that platform pumps are perfect to lengthen your legs when wearing skinny pants. Just be sure you practice your step so people will notice your poise and professionalism rather than your stumble.
