STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pumped up Kicks

Comfortable. Cute. Adaptable: All important factors that I look for when setting out to find the perfect pair of pumps. Yes, high heels are great. They have this mysterious super power that can transform you from feeling slumpy to feeling down right sexy in a millisecond. But can you really do anything in a pair of heels, even if they're completely kick ass? Let's say your out and about and your BFF is has a crisis that only you can solve, or your favorite pizza place closes in ten minutes and you're a 15 minute walk away, can your stiletto studded run get you through these circumstances? I think not. So what's the solution? The perfect pair of lace-ups. Yes, ladies. Sneakers!

I know you probably don't think “sexy skirt and funky top, I think I'll wear sneakers.” But there are some serious advantages when pairing a sleek look with a pair of fun tennis. Take this week's Fashionista. She takes her black and red chucks to another dimension by pairing them with unexpected pieces like a flashy belt and structured blazer. Taking her simple blue tee and black trousers from classic to modern with these key pieces, this Fashionista defies sneaker convention.

This Fashionista's daytime look wouldn't be the same if she paired her pieces with a simple flat, and just like her look excelled with a sporty shoe, your nighttime ensembles can also benefit from an unexpected sneaker. Try pairing this LBD with a hightop shoe. The razorback silhouette complements the aesthetic of the shoe, and you won't have to walk around in a pump that doesn't agree with your feet.

And lucky for you Fashionistas, you can now feel just as sexy while sprinting. The tennis shoe wedge is a real-life thing! The comfort of a sneak with the benefit of a heel, what could be better. These Deena & Ozzy high-top wedges are cozy and sleek, giving them ability to be paired with virtually any look.

Next time you put on a pair of heels that feel like they're screaming “I hate you, so I'm gonna make your feet feel terribly,” swap out your stilettos for a pair of sneaks and your feet will thank you in the morning!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pumped Up Kicks

Upon wandering through my usual social media sites (Pinterest, Tumblr, etc.) for new style inspiration, I came across a great sign that I’m sure has been reblogged a million times. The sign looked like a poster in a store window and read, “Shoes make me happy. I’m superficial. Whatever.” Genius, right? Any shoe lover, like myself, knows that there is just something about a get pair of shoes that turns any bad day into a slightly brighter one.

That’s how I felt when I saw this Fashionista’s kicks that give the word sneakers a whole new meaning. This season has been full of a new style of sneakers that are innovative and flat out cool. As someone who is a lover of anything progressive and bold, I can’t help but want to indulge myself in every new type of sneaker. Jeffery Campbell’s sneaker flatforms remind me of my childhood years watching Spice Girls music video. Those would sure spice up my shoe collection. In the past decade, bold sneakers, like Nike Dunks, have mostly been geared towards males. But now that there are sneakers with a wedge, us girls no longer have to succumb to a basic sneaker.

After you decide which style of bold sneakers is perfect for you, a basic outfit like this Fashionista’s neon sweatshirt and black shorts is ideal because it keeps the outfit from being too bold and accents the sneakers. With a colorful pair of sneakers, try a neutral colored dress. Since cold weather is just around the corner, also try a pair of skinny jeans tucked into a wedge sneaker. No matter how bold or reserved your style is, there are many new kicks that can vamp up your wardrobe.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pumped Up Kicks

While the majority of people asking for my fashion advice are females, I do have a few boys who have made me their go-to consultant. I love shopping for men’s clothes just about as much as shopping for my own. I don’t set out to only play dress up, but I aim to teach them why they should purchase certain pieces and show a variety of ways to wear them.  It is not uncommon for me to receive a text message telling me how much they love a purchase they made with me or how many compliments they’ve received.

This Fashionisto sports two items that I stress to every guy I’ve helped — fitted jeans and unique sneakers. Guys, you need a pair of dark wash, fitted jeans in your wardrobe. There are no ifs, ands or buts about that statement. You should be able to wear them casually, but also feel comfortable wearing them out to a nice dinner or on a date. Baggy jeans will swallow you up and can often make you appear a lot shorter than you really are. This is an item you can justify splurging on, but if your budget doesn’t allow for that I guarantee you can find a pair for less than $50. I recommend Nordstrom, J.Crew and Gap for a slightly pricier pair and Forever 21 and H&M to those on a budget.

A stylish pair of sneakers is where you can really showcase your personality. This Fashionisto’s Ralph Lauren shoes definitely make a statement with their heather gray hue and colored laces. Whether it’s Nike Dunks or a pair of crazy Converse this should be a purchase you’re genuinely excited about. When you see them you should know that those are sneakers you have to have. Pair your sneakers with your fitted jeans and all you have to add is a plan white T-shirt and voila! Instant style.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pumped Up Kicks

As of late, colored denim has been a coveted item around Auburn’s campus, and for good reason. Perhaps it is the practical yet stylish qualities that make colored denim the ideal trend for fall. I simply believe that a pair of bright red skinny jeans can make a Fashionista/o look fierce! Whatever the reasoning may be, a bold pop of color undoubtedly adds some fun to any outfit.

This Fashionista clearly rocks the colored denim trend with her black denim jeggings, however she kicks conventionality to the curb with her turquoise pumps. Brightly colored shoes are another way of “pumping up” (pun intended) your fall wardrobe. The contrast of the neutrals and blacks with a burst of vibrant color is refreshing to say the least, so don’t be afraid of color for fall. Look for suede colored shoes in order to integrate that fall feel. Taking a closer look, this Fashionista complements her pumps with the clutch’s turquoise strap. This small detail pulls the look together without looking too “matchy-matchy.” The clutch’s raspberry jewel tone sneaks in another vivid color.

Life occasionally requires a dash of color to alleviate a gloomy day, or merely just to brighten up a drab fall outfit. It is the smaller details that sometimes have A statement shoe may seem like a risky investment, but rest assured it is possible get good use out of bold and bright shoes. An electric colored shoe makes for an easy and stylish look because it creates a statement all on its own (hence the name)! Also, keep in mind that you don’t need a haute couture budget to achieve the bold look. Try this pair for a more wallet-friendly venture.
