STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Put It In Your Pocket

It's been extra hot this summer so many Fashionistas have opted for dresses to maintain a fashion forward look and stay cool. This week’s Fashionista was found doing just that, wearing a tailored shirtdress that shows off her fashion sense without suffering from the heat. The neon pink and contrasting black belt were style highlights, but the best detailing on this ensemble were the pockets on the front of the dress.

The pocketed dress has been spotted on several designer runways but it's also making an appearance in everyday street style due to the functional nature of the pocket. Not only do pockets provide a place to rest your hands, they also serve as storage space; these stylish dresses are the perfect place to tuck away a phone or lip balm so you don’t have to worry about lugging around a bag when you’re out.

The pocketed dress this Fashionista's rocking is perfect for summer; the sleeveless top and just above the knee hem show just the right amount of skin while the button-down and collar details maintain a formal appeal, the perfect balance for a summer night out. By cinching the waist, this Fashionista’s belt adds shape to the A-line dress and divides the dress in two, drawing attention to the pockets below the belt as a focal point of the outfit.

Many dresses feature this pocketed style so it's easy for anyone to create a similar look. Try this navy mini dress with hidden pockets in the pleats of the skirted bottom and spice it up with chunky jewelry and rugged combat boots. For a dress that stands on its own, check out this anchor printed sundress from J.Crew with on-seam pockets. If you want the pockets to really stand out, try this tan floral dress with pockets that drape below the hem or this poppy printed dress with large front pockets and an open back detail. Although bags and purses are fun accessories, take a break from carrying everything around and let your pockets be both a fashion statement and a functional addition to your wardrobe this summer.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Put It In Your Pocket

All the late night stressing over finals is done– it’s officially spring break! For most, spring break means wearing a favorite sundress or a comfy tee with a pair of shorts, putting on a pair of sunglasses and traveling to tropical destinations with best friends. It’s the perfect time to shake off the winter blues and spend time with good company.

When coming across this week’s Fashionista, she seemed as though she was still amidst the winter blues. That is, until I asked her what were her plans this spring break and she replied back with, “I’m going to New York!” It was then I realized how fitting her outfit was for the chilly East Coast weather.

While I adored her casual look in the layers of sweaters and cardigans, the most unique part of her outfit had to be the scarf with pockets! I was so excited to see this– it was the first time I had ever seen this kind of scarf and what a fun way to make something even more functional! Not only does the gray wool scarf keep her neck nice and cozy, but with the added bonus of the pockets, she can also keep her hands warm or use them to hold gloves or small accessories. As if the pockets weren’t enough to make this scarf a practical accessory, it also shared a hoodie!
With this wool scarf, this Fashionista is ready to take on that cool, crisp New York air in style!

Hint: If you’re like this Fashionista who isn’t traveling to a place of sand and sun this spring break and need a new accessory for days when you need to bundle up in a scarf, wrap yourself in a pocket scarf! Check out several of these styles from GAP, NastyGal and Michael Kors. If you’re interested in a handmade one, check at this gray hoodie scarf from Etsy.

Whether you’re sticking around town or taking a trip somewhere, enjoy yourself and have a great spring break!
