STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Rainbow Brite

Many Fashionistas get style inspiration from the runway and their favorite magazine, mine tends to come from cartoon '80s movies and classic Britney Spears music videos. Thats why this Fashionista caught my eye, particularly because of her rainbow layered tops. Rainbow Brite was probably my first style icon, her multi colored clothes and unicorn were all I ever wanted and this week's Fashionista channels Rainbow Brite in a way that's campus ready.

First to get inspired, I urge you to pour over Rainbow Brite pictures and videos. If runway inspiration is more your style, channel Rainbow Brite style by layering this seasons neutrals, pastels. If you're not afraid of color go for the “Rainbow Brite goes to DayGlo” look and layer neon. For pastel layering get yourself to H&M, they have a million pastel staples right now, I'm loving a banana yellow/lilac purple/mint green combo. My top in-store pick right now is this high low pink ombré top. Layer it with a multi-colored bandage skirt for rainbow affect. To layer neons, shop Pitusa for ultra comfy clothes that are both ethical and comfortable. Don't be too timid to pile the color on, this Fashionista and myself would approve. For the bold I recommend this amazing pair of Jeffrey Campbells, which a 2012 Rainbow Brite would absolutely wear.

For further inspiration and ways to wear color make a nice cup of tea and spend a lazy day in bed stalking through Jeffrey Campbell's Blog. Oh, and pop in your favorite cartoon '80s movie.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Rainbow Brite

The coming of spring means the departure from gloomy neutrals and the acceptance of bright, weather-appropriate pieces into our wardrobes. And while it would probably have been appreciated, it may not have been entirely appropriate to wear insanely loud, colorful pieces in the dead of winter. This season, more than ever, bright hues are absolutely in for spring. From tops to nail polish, from eye shadow to hair accessories, it's time to bring out the brightness.

This morning, I was reading a favorite beauty blog of mine regarding brightly colored nail polish for spring. Orange and green, in particular, are two colors you can expect to see both on and off the runway. That being said, color was on my mind when I ran into this Fashionista in our student center. Her bright yellow crop top would brighten even the gloomiest of rainy, spring days, and is extremely versatile when paired with shorts, a skirt or jeans. For brightly hued crop tops, I would begin by looking at Forever 21, where you'll be able to find most of these trendy pieces for under $15.

In regards to other electric trends you'll be able to see this season, consider spicing up your normal, winter beauty routine with something a little bolder. I've always loved the bright pink lip for every occasion from class to formal wear, and take a cue from the spring 2011 runway make up for some insanely bright eye shadow, as well.
