STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Rainy Days and Mondays

Surprisingly the weather on campus has seemed more like springtime in London than December in snowy Syracuse. Due to the unseasonal rains, it comes as no surprise that trench coats have been making a strong appearance among both Fashionistas and Fashionistos throughout the past week. This Fashionista picked up on the trend with a London Fog trench coat. The rest of her outfit is composed of Levi’s skinny jeans and a pair of black flats from Steve Madden

The important thing I noticed with this Fashionista is the color of her trench. When someone talks about wearing a trench coat, a coat in khaki or camel jumps instantly into mind for most as the quintessential trench coat. I wanted to photograph this Fashionista to show that trench coats can work equally well in non traditional colors, like this green, and in multiple ways. Sometimes, it’s best to go outside of the traditional and explore the classic garments by working with a new twist. Like this Fashionista’s look, the trench coat's different color is an eye grabber.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Rainy Days and Mondays

Michigan State is finally starting to feel the fall weather coming in full force after this long Indian summer. This Fashionista has the right idea on this cold, drizzly day. She dons a trench coat perfect for the rain and for her outfit. The trench coat is iconic for its use on rainy days, so keep this idea alive on your own campus. She sticks with the fall trend of neutrals with her choices of black and tan. I love her laced up booties with a chunky heel. These are perfect for our campus, a bigger heel allows you to walk longer distances and keep your outfit dressy. I also like how she paired these boots with pants that are elastic on the bottom, keeping the shoes on full display.

You can find trench coats at Macy's, look for neutral colors or choose one that pops. I own a bright red trench coat that works well with the neutrals in the rest of my outfits. Plain, heeled short boots can be found anywhere, but I personally love them with the laces. Don't forget to add a knit scarf to your outfit, not matter what type of coat you choose!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Rainy Days and Mondays

The best advice I can give to any incoming PSU students is invest in a good pair of rain boots and a waterproof coat.  It rains here.  A LOT.  Basically it's a good week if you can see the sun 2 out of 7 days and it is important to be prepared for inclimate weather while still remaining fashionable.  I spotted this Fashionista on a rainy school day between classes.  The daffodils may look bright and sunny but it was really coming down when I took her picture.  Her waterproof rain trench is the epitome of the perfect foul weather fashion.  It resists water while still looking properly fitted and chic.  Finding a nicely fitting raincoat it tough, so here are some great choices.

1. Target's brightly colored option brings something special to a grey day.

2. This gorgeous belted coat from L.L. Bean is a classic.

3. This cherry red London Fog coat with metal details can be worn any day, not just when it's raining.

Style On,

Meridith
