STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Red Hot

Fall is the perfect time to make bold statements with your outerwear pieces. They’ll keep you warm in the chilly weather while also taking your outfit to a new level of chic. Whether your preference is leather, like Jennifer Morrison's character Emma in ABC's Once Upon a Time, blazers or peacoats, stand out this fall by thinking red. It's one of those colors that looks great on every skin tone, so don’t be afraid to rock this bold color as a great outwear statement piece!

This Fashionista has totally hit the hot mark in her red leather jacket. She paired hers with a white satin blouse and black tailored shorts. She added some edge to her look with patterned tights and studded black shoes. She accessorized with a black fringe bag and silver placket necklace. What really makes her look a winner is that she let her red leather jacket take the starring role in her ensemble, and kept the rest of her outfit in neutral black and white colors. Because red is such an attention grabbing color, make sure the rest of your outfit is neutral like this Fashionista did to keep your outfit balanced and not overdone.

If leather isn’t your thing, try pairing your little black dress with a red blazer to add some color and spice to your outfit. Mix in a pair of high heels and metallic jewelry to give you a polished and ultra glam evening look. If you’re like me and love your cozy peacoats, try this red belted version. The belt gives your waist some great definition, and paired with your favorite skinnies and riding boots, this look will definitely be a hit.

So whatever your fall outerwear preference may be, try it in red for a beautiful and bold pop of color. This will leave you looking red hot in the cold months to come!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Red Hot

When deciding what color to center my fall wardrobe around my mother wanted to have a say. “Maroon is very in this fall,” she stated. And after some research and thought I came to agree with her advice. And so, maroon it is for the fall. But it's still summer and with the summer heat still blasting it may be too soon to whip out the jewel tones. So when you're vying for those rich and deep hues, which will surely leave you sweating under the hot sun, opt for their close color cousin to tie you over until fall: wear variations of red! The color known best for making a statement and the color best incorporated in varying shades is a great addition to any outfit.

This week’s Fashionista wears a coral lace top tucked into light wash denim shorts and she matches the brightly colored top with burgundy leather sandals. The look is pulled together with a beautiful camel colored leather bag and note how she mixed varying shades of red and brown, yet still looks summer appropriate. To achieve a look like this Fashionista’s try this red lace top with any pair of denim shorts and these red, snake skin thong sandals. Tie it all together with this classy brown crossbody leather bag and you will have a red hot look just like this week’s Fashionista. The moral of the story is, using fall trends late in the summer season is not only possible but also highly recommended. It keeps us all from getting too bored with our summer style and allows you to utilize the latest additions to your closet. And most importantly, start thinking maroon for fall, my mother will be proud!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Red Hot

I am going to be honest with you — I’ve have never been a fan of the color red. I don’t exactly know why, but I never liked the color nor have I ever wanted to wear it. Strangely enough, when I saw this week’s Fashionista walking across campus I fell in love with her red top. I am not sure if it was the subtleness of the red or just the excellent styling of the outfit (probably both), but I knew I had to find out where this outfit was from because I had to have it!

After stopping this Fashionista, she told me that she got her top on sale from Old Navy for 10 dollars and her shoes on sale from Target for nine dollars… I nearly dropped dead! Ten dollars for an adorable shirt (that is perfect for summer!) and only nine dollars for strappy blue suede shoes?! This bargain Fashionista hit it out of the park with this outfit!

If you are anything like me and lack in the deal finding department, fear no more! I found awesome alternatives for this outfit all for a low price. This printed top from Forever 21 is a great alternative to this week’s Fashionista’s shirt and you can get it for less than 20 dollars. I also found her amazing blue suede heels on Target’s website for just a little more than she paid for them. Lessons learned this week: sometimes red can look amazing on and you can find amazing clothing and shoes in the clearance bin if you do a little digging!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Red Hot

Temperatures are dropping in Philadelphia and the temptation to disregard fashion for warmth is rising. Now some of the usual winter fashion laments incude “I can't wear heels”, or the most common “But I look frumpy!” You don't have to have these laments and this weeks Fashionista helps me help you.

The first trick to chase away the cold is dressing in a red hot color. This Fashionista pairs the color red well with a bold print skirt. In the words of the incredible Karen Robinovitz, “Life is hard, fashion is not. Wear red.” It's hard walking to Starbucks in between classes with an artic blast coming at you, so wear red and give off some heat. Layering is your best friend in winter, don't underestimate how warm piled on layers can be. Trying pairing your New Year's Eve dress over fleece lined leggings, then pulling over a sweater and a great blazer.

Accessories are key to this Fashionista's look. Winter is the perfect time to experiment with hats, or even adorable snow bunny earmuffs. Throw on a cozy infinity scarf to keep your neck and face cozy. Incorpate fun jewelry from Wildfox Couture to spruce up your winter fashion.

Lastly for those of you who give up heels once it get belows 50, wedge boots were made for you. I'm a fan of the K2 from Jeffrey Campbell: the title alone gives reassurance you can walk allover Philadelphia's winter.

Keep your style red hot Philadelphia Fashionistas!

As the leaves begin to change shades, this Fashionista has embraced the seasonal colors in her own wardrobe. Her red boots caught my eye as an alternative to the typical black leather boots we are all accustomed to. This punch of color is a good way to spice up your basics without burning your bank account. It’s the time of the season for loving- and I am loving these boots for this fall.

Style On,
