STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Romping Around

Being in the midst of summer, finding an outfit that serves a dual purpose of keeping you cool and maintains your fashion cred is a constant struggle. I am a firm believer that one should not have to sacrifice style and comfort when choosing an outfit, and the romper is the perfect solution to this never-ending battle. This diverse onesie is fit for any occasion, whether you’re on the way to the beach or pounding the pavement in the extreme heat of the city, rompers are your go-to piece of clothing.

The romper originates from children’s play clothing from the 1900s, but over time women have undoubtedly adopted it as their own. The ever popular piece of clothing has evolved from the simple monochromatic romper to various lengths, styles, colors and patterns. This Fashionista was spotted wearing a strapless romper decorated with a pink floral pattern accompanied by a pale pink cotton blazer. As for the accessories, this Fashionista is not afraid to adorn herself with multiple jewels. I know many may say less is more, but when dealing with a simple romper, you have room to spare for extra accessories.  From bronze rings to necklaces and bracelets to simple aviators, this Fashionista tops off her look with a chic studded gray carry-all bag.

To emulate this Fashionista’s look, start by scoping out the style of romper that suits you best. Urban Outfitters has a great selection of rompers from pants to shorts, strapless to sleeves. To beat the heat, check out this navy blue romper and accessorize it with a fun, bright necklace and some strappy flat sandals. If you're feeling more on the adventurous side, try out this striped surplice jumper with minimal accessories to avoid competing with the bold pattern. Next, hunt down a great summer carry-all bag. Try this patent leather tote; it’s big enough to carry all your summer essentials and suitable for the beach, a day of shopping or whatever your summer days entail!

Going from hot to cool weather, the romper is the answer to your seasonal prayers being as versatile as it is. Dress it up or dress it down, this piece of clothing is essential in every Fashionista’s closet.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Romping Around

Nothing is more fun and comfy than throwing on your favorite cotton romper. A onesie that allows you to jump around all you want without feeling self-conscious is a stylish choice, and this Fashionista takes us back to basics in classic black. Therefore, this romper can be dressed to the nines with chunky costume jewelry, or downplayed for class with a simple sweater and light, understated accessories. Whichever look you go for, the black romper makes a comfortable and fashionable canvas. Today’s Fashionista chose to subtly accessorize with a beautiful tortoise and gold Michael Kors watch, Steve Madden flat sandals and a comfortable cotton sweater in slate. I love the minute details on the arm of the sweater – the button and flap gives it a little extra something.

This week, take a note from this Fashionista and pull out your favorite romper. I am personally a fan of the full jumpsuit as well. The A.P.C. silk jumpsuit in teal is a favorite of mine right now, and American Apparel’s Tri-Blend Pocket Jumpsuit is comfortable, casual and stylish. To complete the look, pair a romper or jumpsuit with a fabulous pair of platforms, chunky heels or wedges. Since Ralph Lauren rarely goes wrong in the shoe department (or in any department), my newest obsession is the Alannah Suede Platform sandal in pink and turquoise. I also love the Eralita Rafia Espadrille. For a more casual look, pair the romper with some flat sandals, as this Fashionista demonstrates, or your favorite Keds or sneakers.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Romping Around

Rompers are a great comfortable, fun and cute option for the spring and summer months. They combine the flirty aspect of a dress with the playfulness of shorts and are great for days when you're on the go. The fact that they're lightweight and come in a variety of different prints and colors adds to why they should be a go-to item in your closet. Rompers and jumpsuits can range from casual enough to go to class to dressy enough for a night on the town. Rose Byrne just showed us how dressy a jumpsuit can be by choosing to wear an Elie Saab jumpsuit to the Screen Actor's Guild Awards.

This week's Fashionista is wearing a fabulous romper by Karina Grimaldi with a ruffle along the bust line and feather detailing on the drawstrings. Paired with the nude wedges, it seems as if her legs go on forever. The teal color of the romper goes perfectly with Florida weather and is also great for showing off your tan. Rompers are also great coverups. I love this one by Parker, it would be perfect transition between the pool and classes. If you need an outfit to transition you between a day at your internship and happy hour, look no further than this Dolce Vita Romper. It is perfectly tailored and appropriate for the workplace. Add heels and a bold necklace and you're all set to head out with a few coworkers.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Romping Around

As summer is about to come into full bloom, the one stylish must-have every Fashionista should have in her closet to get through the upcoming hot months is the romper. Although rompers were once intended to be “loungewear,” fashion has certainly put a new twist on things. The romper provides a fun and effortless look to a simple piece. Its simplicity of essentially being a whole outfit in one piece is perfect for the hot summer days when you are just looking for something to throw on and still look chic. With the different forms, patterns and colors that rompers now come in, Fashionistas can find a romper perfect for almost any occasion. Whether it be heading out to the beach for the day, or perhaps a more formal affair, the variety of options are endless.

The key is to pick out a style that is right for you body type. Rompers now come in such a variety that there is now a perfect style for everyone. Even though rompers were fairly prominent in last summer’s fashion trends, take notice because this is one item that you will be seeing more and more this season. Sites like Shop Nasty Gal, Urban Outfitters and Karmaloop offer a great selection at some great prices.

Hint: Try a solid colored blazer to go along with your look. The key is to add a little personal flare to your romper, while keeping in mind that sometimes the romper can have a “loud” personality all by itself.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Romping Around

The romper has been making waves in the fashion world for a few years now and I must admit, it took me awhile to embrace this style. The romper is one of those trends that have clearly proved its worth, staying around spring after spring and summer after summer, while still remaining fairly controversial when it comes to the who, why, and how one exactly goes about wearing a romper.

Rompers come in all kinds of colors and cuts’, ranging from looks perfect for a night out to those better suited for a day by the pool. While, a dressy romper with a pair of heels and cute accessories can definitely be a great look for night, my personal favorite is the daytime romper. This week’s Fashionista is proving why I love this look. She’s truly embracing the warm weather with her striped cotton romper. This simple look really stands on it’s own giving off a nautical vibe and looking chic while still being very comfortable. I found a similar romper at Urban Outfitters. She’s paired this look with simple lace up tennis shoes and an oversized bag making her ready to spend the day running around campus. She’s also wearing a fun headband with floral details that’s perfect for spring.

Today's Fashionista is definitely not alone in embracing this look. Several designers showed rompers in their Spring/Summer collections, proving the style is here to stay. Diane von Furstenberg showed several pattern heavy rompers in her Resort 2011 collection, in a similar style to this week’s Fashionista. The romper look is also ever popular at big music festivals such as Coachella where fashion is almost as important as the music!

Hint: Clearly the romper is here to stay. As the weather continues to get warmer take the risk and try one. You’ll be in great company.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Romping Around

With the transition from summer to fall, and fall to winter, I’m always looking for ways to incorporate my warm weather clothes into my cold weather wardrobe.

Spotting this Fashionista, I was amazed how perfectly she transitioned her romper with an oversized sweater, leggings and boots. Although my mother never fails to remind me that you can’t wear summer clothes in the winter, I beg to differ. Certain pieces can work all year round- you just need to find the right ensemble.

True, cropped shirts and mini skirts may not move into your winter wardrobe. However, rompers, and dresses are ready for the task.

Any floral dress can be paired with boots and tights that give that effortless look. And, throw on a huge knit sweater and you’re good to go. This velvet dress by Free People is perfect or any fall/winter wardrobe. It’s versatile, and the fabric makes it appropriate for those holiday months. While maxi dresses don’t always seem versatile, throw on a leather jacket and you’re ready to step out into the crisp, cool breeze. This long sleeve maxi from T by Alexander Wang has long sleeves to make sure you have an extra layer on to keep you warm.

Now, the romper. It’s absolutely my favorite item to wear all year round. In the summer, you put it on and it’s instantly an outfit. In the winter months, throw a chunky sweater on like this Fashionista- and again, instantly fashionable.

So, don’t put away your warm weather wear just yet- because pairing it with winter accessories opens up a whole new set of outfit possibilities.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Romping Around

What’s the best article of clothing to keep you cool this summer? It’s rompers of course! They’re the perfect attire for barbecues, pool parties and this fantastic sunny weather. They’re an interesting piece because they can be worn in a variety of ways and they come in an assortment of styles, colors, and prints. Rompers leave a lasting impression because they’re so simple you can transform them. In other words no matter how you look at it no two rompers are alike.

Rompers are really making a comeback this spring and summer season. And I think they’ll be trendy for some time. Everywhere you look somebody is wearing one that’s completely different from the last. But what I love about them is that they’re great for almost any occasion. They’re a fantastic cover-up for bathing suits and still very swank for simple day wear.

Today's Fashionista was actually attending a barbecue and chose a look that would keep her cool and stylish even when surrounded by dozens of hungry individuals and a blazing grill. She also chose a great colored romper that complemented her skin tone, not to mention the floral patterns which are very subtle but still catches your eye. Around her neck is a beautiful pearl necklace. Because rompers are so simple looking this is a time to take advantage and accessorize. To finish things off she wore a simple pair of sandals. From head-to-toe I’d say this Fashionista really made this look her own, giving it a look of pure sophistication and simplicity.
