As midterms come to a close and finals are looming, it is easy to become less motivated to get dolled up for class. However, this Fashionista seems to put an academic spin on her ensemble. Instead of being overwhelmed by her studies, she embraces the academic look in her outfit. In my mind, she took a cue from my favorite guilty pleasure, Gossip Girl. Season one and two to be specific. I drooled over the uniforms of Blair Waldorf and Serena Vanderwoodsen as they accessorized with neckties, heeled boots and headbands. I desperately yearned for my high school to immediately install a uniform dress code, but it was an unreasonable thought. If you’re equally captivated by the prep-school uniform look, then you’ll love this look.
To be honest, it was her full-skirted silhouette that caught my eye and the rest of the look did not disappoint. You can grab your own mini from American Apparel where they have many similar styles. I do recommend rocking the rich jewel toned teal she selected. She then complemented her mini with a slim, crewneck, cable knit sweater in a light ballet hue. Try this one from J.Crew for a similar look. Finally, she topped off her look with a pair of simple gold drop earrings, black patent leather flats and a black canvas bow to tie up half of her hair. The overall look is what I’d call preppy chic, which seemed perfect for a Sunday at the library.
If you want to further embrace your inner Gossip Girl, I recommend adding in a few more preppy touches. Try adding in a school boy blazer, a pair of gray knee socks (thigh-highs if you’re feeling daring) and an adorable pair of oxford lace-ups. You’ll look like one of Blair Waldorf’s chic minions in the best way possible.
