STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Sheer Genius

I don’t know about you, but after this summer I have an awful lot of sheer tops. They are beautiful and I love them, but now with the weather cooling off, I’m finding it difficult to style them in the same way that I have in the past. I was a bit puzzled by what to do, until I met this Fashionista. The key seems to be, as it often in with autumn, layering.
If you don’t have a shirt to go under that matches perfectly, don’t worry. An easy way to choose your undershirt is to look at the color family of your sheer top and choose its neutral pair. Cool colors like blues and purples pair well with grays, and warm colors pair well with browns and tans. If you have a patterned top like this Fashionista, it’s safest to wear a solid colored tank underneath. But if you happen to have a solid colored top you can pair it with a patterned undershirt to add a bit of subtle texture.

If you’re new to the trend, you’re in luck; companies are now making sheer tops that are suitable for colder climates. This blouse from NASTY GAL has sheer sleeves and a sheer back, but solid pieces that eliminate the need to layer. There are blouses that are completely sheer but have long sleeves and a complex pattern that make it easier to layer, like this one from Forever 21.

The sheer shirt is one trend from the summer that can easily be taken into the fall, and if you haven’t gotten into it yet, jump on board!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Shear Genius

Every Fashionista has one of those days when spending an extensive amount of time putting an outfit together is the last thing on her mind. Sure, she may just reach for her favorite skinnies, a worn-in T-shirt and go-to boots, but after a while, this routine can get boring. It’s these moments when shearling can become a Fashionista’s best friend. Any item that is adorned with shearling can easily be thrown on to make a trendy, comfortable and in-the-moment look. With a few key pieces, the trend can also last through the rest of winter and into spring.

Our Fashionista shows just how versatile these pieces can be. She effortlessly wears her shearling-lined jacket with basic black jeans and an embellished white top. When combined with the fringe and chain detailing from her shirt, the jacket takes on a tougher vibe. While the ensemble is comprised of only three pieces, the shearling jacket adds another level and makes the look unique and chic.

To start styling like today's Fashionista, add basic shearling pieces to your wardrobe. A lined jacket (check out Forever 21's wallet-friendly option) or aviator jacket can easily be added to jeans and a T-shirt for an instant cool effect. Or, a denim jacket with shearling collar can work from winter to spring and will add instant personality to your look. Another great way to rock the trend is through your footwear. A pair of lace-up shearling boots is on-point for winter’s trends. When the weather gets warmer (if that ever happens) opt for a pair of lighter shearling wedges with a flowy skirt or dress to keep the same effortless vibe. Any way you choose to sport it, shearling can be an instant outfit refresher when a Fashionista needs it most.
