STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Take A Walk On The Wild Side

For the past few seasons one trend has remained tried and true, and that is animal prints. Initially, I avoided this trend. It’s so easy to make leopard print look reminiscent of Snooki rather than the runway. But as time has gone by, I’ve been extremely impressed and even slightly inspired by some of the chic ensembles I’ve spotted that incorporate leopard, or even zebra, print.

I spotted this Fashionista as I was leaving the art studio. She grabbed my attention with her sheer, sleeveless, animal print button down and light-wash denim shorts with black leather oxfords. She brightens up the ensemble with a playful red patent leather purse. Her outfit flawlessly incorporates animal print while remaining true to her trendy style. She was reluctant to let me snap a photo, due to a few smudges of charcoal acquired during her numerous hours in the art studio. Despite the charcoal, I found her outfit irresistible.

If you are like this Fashionista and you’re willing to get a little wild with your wardrobe, it won’t be difficult to find animal print. It’s all over stores. If you’re not quite ready to make a commitment to leopard with a shirt or pants, try a pair of animal printed sunglasses. Topshop has a classy, affordable pair of Leopard Sunglasses .

One of my favorite ways to incorporate some wildlife into your attire this summer is with Maaji Swimwear. Their swimsuits are flattering on almost every body type and their funky and bright prints incorporate zebras and other fun prints. Luckily, you don’t have to blindly order the suits online. Right here in St. Augustine, GOLDFINCH Boutique carries a wide selection of Maaji suits and are constantly re-ordering new sizes and styles.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Animal prints are in! Come to think of it – have they ever been out? Animal prints have a primal feel that is sexy and fun; and says of the wearer – I’m wild at heart.

Playing with animal prints can be a very dangerous style game. Of all the fashion faux pas, nothing is quite as tragic as the poor styling of animal prints. Introducing animal prints has the unique potential to either add a touch of class to a great outfit or the ability to produce a fashion nightmare worthy of an episode of TLC’s What Not to Wear.

This Miami Fashionista plays all the right moves with her zebra print top – embellished with black stones and faux pearls at the neckline – coupled with slim-cut blue jeans and flesh-colored strappy sandals.

A zebra print – in a timeless black and white combo –  is always classic, crisp and clean that flatters most complexions. The strong print, using large stripes, also flatters most figures.

Today's Fashionista avoided looking too matchy-matchy by pairing her top with dark-washed blue jeans rather than the usual black or white pants, which screams "I’m trying to hard." Hers is a balanced contemporary ensemble. With the top incorporating stones, jewelry was kept simple with just a watch and flesh-colored sandals.

So here are some simple rules for wearing animal prints:

1. Keep it simple

2. Feature only one piece, preferably on top, don’t wear it head to toe

3. Avoid matchy-matchy

4. Team with a solid color

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Take a Walk on the Wild Side

It’s sad to admit, but summer is coming to an end. Pretty soon internships will be replaced with classes and long nights posted up at the library. That also means trading in summer dresses for warmer pieces, such as sweaters. Although I’m very excited for new fall fashion, I’m going to miss light tank tops and bare legs! When I caught this Fashionista on the street I had to grab my camera because her outfit was the epitome of summer.

This Fashionista was wearing a lighter than air chiffon tank. With summer heat reaching temperatures of 95 degrees, this tank top isn’t just fashionable – it’s practical. She paired this top with a black high waisted mini skirt. I really liked the contrast between the baggy shirt and the tight skirt. This look is incredibly flattering. As we all know the waist is the skinniest part of every girl, so it’s best to accentuate it! Like a couple of other Fashionistas I’ve spotted this summer she was wearing nude heels. This trend has been popular in Iowa City, but I’ve also noticed its popularity back home in Chicago. Nude shoes are the perfect way to elongate your legs, and match with any outfit. She accessorized with a layered gold necklace and a gold bangle. Over all, this entire look is right on. It’s flattering, trendy, and practical for summer. What I love most is the snake skin pattern on this Fashionista’s tank top. I’m a huge fan of animal print. I personally think that everyone should go crazy and sport this trend once before summer comes to a close. Animal prints are a very prominent trend this summer and unlike leopard, which is seen time and time again, this snake skin print really stood out to me.

Say farewell to summer with a daring animal print ensemble. Not only is it fashion forward, it’s totally fierce!

Hint: Torn By Ronny Kobo put together a summer Lookbook all about animal prints. Check it out for some good ideas! Also I found this tank top on Shopnastygal.com that is similar to our Fashionista’s.

This autumn, bring the wild things to your wardrobe! Your standard dark color palette can easily be spiced up with a few animal-inspired accents. This Fashionista is splashing up the fall staples of black skinny jeans and a leather bomber jacket with an edgy leopard print scarf. Wild accessories add a just enough extra edge to any outfit without making you look like Pebbles Flintstone.
