STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Take your Leather with a Little Lace

Today's Fashionistas outfit was simply too cool to resist.  I had to seize the opportunity and snap a few pictures for this week’s feature, mixing leather and lace. On bottom, this Fashionista wore a mid-length, pleated, black leather skirt.  She mixed it with a white lace top and threw a sheer oxford button-up over her shoulders.  She wore a pair of black, gladiator sandals to polish off this look. With a statement piece as bold as her skirt, she kept her accessories minimal and her hair and makeup simple.

For a look similar to this Fashionista's, try a mid-length, black leather skirt. Although it is not pleated, I think this one is more slimming, especially for those of us with a more pear-shaped figure. Pair it with something much more feminine, like this crochet and lace top.  If you’re looking to add a little more pop into your wardrobe this fall, colored leather is hot right now. Check out this ‘70s inspired red leather skirt.  It would look great with a denim top tucked in or knotted up.  If leather on your lower half isn’t the most flattering look for you, try these cream, lace shorts. Pair them with a moto-inspired leather jacket for the perfect combination of girly and edgy.

So this fall, don’t let leather scare you.  It no longer means “biker, studs and chains”. In fact, it can flow with flounce and femininity like this Fashionista demonstrates. And, leather’s soft, buttery look is not limited to a season.  So take it with you into the winter months.  Leather and lace is the ultimate design destination for girly girls with edge.
