During the winter season, it's known that darker neutrals are the highlight of people’s wardrobe. Seeing a hot pink, orange or yellow shade pop on an ensemble adds a semblance of warmth to otherwise cold days. However, since winter has been all but present thus far, eye-catching colors have not been necessary to cheer up a dreary afternoon. A flawlessly put together outfit caught my eye on a not so dreary winter day in Boston.
This Fashionista demonstrated both the power of taupe and a wonderful mix of texture in her outfit. I especially love the way her black and white striped button-down sticks out at the end of her coat sleeves. A sleeve that peeks out at the end of any pullover sweater or coat is always a nice finishing touch, or a way to add patterns and color. The mix of texture in this look also creates an interesting visual element. Her waxed leggings, silky shirt and the raised texture on her coat keep the eyes wandering. The merging of textures is almost equivalent to adding a robust color to the neutral tone of her outfit because it's unexpected.
The color of her coat is very adaptable to a casual or evening look. If you were to pin an embellished brooch on one side of the coat and pair it with a cocktail dress, tights and heels, you could wear it to a nice dinner or to the theater. To keep it casual and class appropriate, follow in this Fashionista’s steps. Wear a neutral pant, ballet flats or boots, a printed top and vintage bag. If you don't want to stick with all plain colors, then opt for colored jeans and animal print flats.
