STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Lacie

January in New York, though beloved for the famous midnight dropping of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball, does not usually have much more to offer other than bitter winds and bone-chilling cold. This week, however, the New York area has experienced a rather unusual, yet happily welcomed, temperature hike that has allowed us to keep our puffer jackets and earmuffs away for that much longer as we enjoy the warmer weather.

This Fashionista has mastered the art of in-between dressing and has created a chic outfit that is interesting and entirely on trend this season. The eye-catcher of this look is the pair of winter white lace shorts from Anthropologie. Standing out against an otherwise all black ensemble, the shorts create depth by serving as the centerpiece for an outfit built on layering and playing with texture. Opaque black tights seamlessly transition the shorts from summer or spring into the darker and colder winter months, and the see-through lace top compliments the texture of the shorts without being overdone. The black faux fur vest tops the outfit off with a bit more edge to contrast the sweetness of the lace, while the multi-colored necklace, bracelets and turquoise ring add just the right amount of color to keep this warm January day ensemble lively and fun.

As the winter weather continues to be unpredictable, you’ll be set to gracefully and stylishly battle any cold or warm fronts with just a little bit of layering and a pair of lace shorts. Free People makes a great pair in a beautiful, rustic red color and Lover has a pair of silk drawstring shorts with lace trim that blur the lines between lingerie and sports wear one scalloped hemline at a time. For those of you looking to take on this Fashionista’s black and winter white theme, Show Me Your Mumu has a pair of ivory lace shorts with a black trim that would compliment any outfit, no matter the climate.

So enjoy these days, Fashionistas, before knee-length coats and rubber boots cover our outfits and protect our heels from slush. Let some lace add romance and sweetness to your next ensemble and have fun with layering to keep yourself warm and ever chic.
