Earlier in the year we spotted a Fashionista mixing up floral prints in a pulled together mismatch. Here we see three girls going for the same kind of style – this time mixing up an assortment of patterns and textures.
The Fashionista on the left goes for a black and white look that is kept busy by pairing spots and stripes. A daring move that is pulled off because of her commitment to grey scale and choosing well fitted pieces of the same kind of texture. It’s all about balance.
The middle Fashionista chooses statement floral trousers. River Island has similarly amazing floral pants that would be fun to work with, as would these crazy gingham trousers from ASOS. The trousers are quite loud so she is careful not to go overboard by matching them with a wonderfully simple asymmetric transparent red top. The third Fashionista achieves a nice balance in her outfit too by mixing up textures in garments that are otherwise quite simple.
All three girls mix up patterns, textures or both and collectively stand together quite emphatically. Wearing different patterns was a style seen throughout L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival by designers such as Gorman, Leonard Street and Garth Cook. This top by Leonard Street is beautiful, and like this one by Carin Wester it could really be done justice when worn with other complementing pieces. Otherwise something like this would be great to style with other patterns for its neutral colours and minimalist pattern.
It’s fun to have a play around with this look, but remember to be careful; there is a risk of patterns clashing when mixing them up. Stick to gentle colour combinations or just try wearing different textures in an outfit for a similar effect.
