STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Tie it Up

Show some skin this week with a tied-up top. Revert back to being a school girl and tying your school shirt up to be like Britney, but this time with one difference, which is because the world of fashion demands you to.

This Fashionista has gone for a light denim shirt and teamed it with high-waisted black jeans to avoid baring too much skin on a chilly day. Her black patent bag is practical and adds a vintage feel. Anything patent is perfect for us students. I cannot deny that my nude patent heels have lasted so long due to the fact I can wipe them clean after a night out and they look as good as new. Always look at patent items as a real investment.

So, here is a license to bare your middle. It’s not an easy one I warn you. Search Leona Lewis in her colour block attire for real inspiration. For once I’d say being tanned isn’t so crucial but toned and comfortable is. The tie-up top is casual yet flirty. They look great with denim and wedges. Look for ditsy floral tie-up tops for a summery look. For a night out, look for something slightly more glamorous. Check out my find from New Look.

Her dark camel cardigan will last her through autumn as its colour will be popular next season. Her red lips add an obligatory colour pop and her long bob suits her style. In fact many elements of this Fashionista’s look are pretty classical, she’s just added a modern twist.

Hint: This week I’ve fallen in love with eBay. It is the place to find bags; snakeskin bags, patent bags, bags of every colour. And all at student friendly prices!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Tie it Up

The tying of clothes has always been a controversial area of fashion. When we were little, it was OK to tie your sweatshirt around your waist, and Daisy Duke always got away with tying her plaid shirts around her rib cage. However, everyday people sporting either look in everyday life might draw some unwanted attention. Contrary to what one may think, a little clothing knot every now and then is not always a terrible idea. This Fashionista sports a look that is unique on TCNJ’s campus – she has loosely tied her button-down. It is not the fashion nightmare of a sweater belt, and not quite as revealing as Daisy. The bow gives her loose shirt a little shape and hugs her hips nicely. She pairs her shirt with a great pair of cuffed denim shorts (a summer must-have), and accessorizes with Ray-Bans and a long shoulder bag.

What makes cuffed denim shorts so hot in the summer? For one, they are one of the few times denim actually looks good cuffed. Second, they can be casual or dressy, as so few denim shorts can. Most shorts are frayed, have pockets sticking out of the bottom, or some kind of paint stain on them. This Fashionista shows off a dark washed denim that can be paired with a bikini top on the way to the beach, or an outfit for a night out like she has on now.

This week, mix things up by tying things up! Take after this Fashionista and make it subtle, yet noticeable. As long as your top is loose, gently tie the bottom for a little more shape. And if you haven’t already, get yourself some cute denim shorts!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Tie it Up

It's summertime and the livin's easy…and it has us landlocked Ohioans dreaming of the beach. While all of us cannot make it to the sand, we can still dress in spirit!

Today's Fashionista embodies the ease of beachy fashion while still adding her own personal polish. What makes her dress so interesting is the fullness and asymmetry of its layers. It is sensual yet modest and completed by a braided tie under the bust. This simple cinch creates a beautiful billowing effect in the layers. Although this dress has a casual feel, it is made more formal through its sequin embellishments. This Fashionista plays this up further with metallic flats, an interesting handcuff necklace, and a classic watch.

When searching for the perfect "throw it on" dress, try Swell for many breezy options. Or buy a shapeless cut, like this one here, and tie a string belt over it! When it comes to making it to the ocean this season, who knows, maybe wishful dressing will have more power than wishful thinking.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Tie it Up!

Now that it's July it seems as though most people have their daily routine set in stone: wake up at the crack of dawn, get ready for work, eat breakfast, go to work, get back home, eat dinner, and go to sleep… and repeat. By now, unless you have the dream wardrobe, you've started wearing the same outfits you wore a few weeks ago, and it's getting to be just plain boring.

Lucky for you, this Fashionista has reminded the world of the perfect detail on an item of clothing: a bow. Whereas this outfit would seem like anyone else's without it, the bow to the side of her skirt makes it her own, and anything but boring. Urban Outfitters has perfect, dainty bows on most items of clothing. If you like this Fashionista's skirt in particular, check out this skirt, or this denim one. These shorts and this top incorporate bows ideally as well.

So, don't let yourself get ruled by your routine. Sure, you might still have to wake up too early and go to work everyday… but after work why not browse around for some bows? Just because you are on a strict schedule does not mean that your outfit should reflect that!
