STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Tie Me Up

One of the biggest fashion faux pas students make on campus’ across the country is when they hide a trendy outfit with a frumpy, ill-fitted coat and shoes that do more for your bunions than your fashion sense. Making its first appearance in the 2000s, the every so popular UGG boot and North Face jacket combination has appeared in movies, on TV shows, and has even been spotted on celebrities in SoHo. While it has never been featured on the cover of Vogue, this fad has stayed popular as students have been going back to this effortless trend every leave-changing season. But while being comfortable and staying warm are two valid concerns, there are plenty of ways to do so while staying chic and classy.

I spotted this Fashionista making her way down Burlington, strutting her stuff in a pair of Miu Miu ombre faded booties. On the bottom she wore a pair of black straight-legged pants with a white tucked in blouse on top. Similar button-ups can be found at Aritzia as Macy's and H&M have similar yet way more affordable fall appropriate booties. Over her blouse, she layered with a chic black jacket that featured a feminine tie collar and topped off her outfit with an oversized Joie fur coat. While real fur is very expensive, it’s definitely worth the splurge and can be found at Bloomingdales who carry some of the best designers such as Marc Kaufman and Maximilian.

Keeping your body heat and skin on your feet is not always an easy task, especially when battling the gusty winds of the colder months, but with a chic jacket, wearable boots and plenty of layers, it can easily be done in the most elegant manner.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Tie Me Up

'Androgynous – Neither specifically masculine nor feminine’ (Webster’s Dictionary). I caught this Fashionista,  right outside Whitworth Hall on Oxford Road displaying an androgynous styled outfit. When all the floral prints and breezy dresses get too boring the simplicity and distinctiveness of a menswear inspired outfit always does the trick. It is easy to wear, comfortable, but very fashion forward. It seems like every season menswhere or the androgynous look is in.

I can't mention the androgynous look for women without of course tying it back to the original, Annie Hall. This Fashionista's ‘boy meets girl’ button down shirt is amazing. The tie is the perfect accessory for this fall. Its unique, its traditional, and its trendy all at the same time.  Alone, the shirt might look too prim and proper for laid back Manchester but combined with the jacket and the Converses her look becomes edgy. Plus this Fashionista leaves her tie undone just enough to make it look effortless. Her bag adds to the charm of her outfit. Basic black is never wrong. Her patent bag ups the masculine ante with a square structure and briefcase handles.

This Fashionista proved that sometimes its not the pants or top that makes the outfit but the accessories that do all the talking.
