When the temperature has gone from 65 to 90 degrees in a week, you know you have entered a D.C. summer. The district is notorious for humid weather with thermometers peaking right around 100 degrees within the first weeks of June. Nothing makes you cringe more than having your clothes stick to you, especially when you are trying to make a statement.
This week’s Fashionista was able to beat the heat with her practical yet stylish approach to the change in climate. Her white on white ensemble kept her cool and did not compromise her originality. First, her polka-dotted button-down was layered over a black silk cami adding contrast to this classic approach. Crisp white shirts made famous by the likes of Katherine Hepburn will never go out of style, and are light enough to wear on days when clothing should be optional.
Next, her lace mini was every ounce of femininity and it added an unexpected approach. Pairing two patterns or textures together was a popular trend seen of the spring runways. Many chain stores offer affordable takes on this trend. Lace minis also look great with jean jackets for day or blazers for a more polished look. An excellent place to find your perfect lace mini would be Shopbop or UrbanOutfitters. This look can be recycled in the fall with tights and boots as well.
By adding a Louis Vuitton bucket bag and Frye harness boots, she was able to incorporate her own twist on classics. Keeping her outfit simple with gold bangles and chandelier earrings, she worked this look from head to boot. Remember that summer is the season of simplicity, and you have to make it work with your own rules.
