By now it's pretty clear that bright colors are all the hype for spring fashion this year. Sometimes, we tend to play favorites when it comes to fashion and this season is no exception; mint and coral are the definite winners. I believe in giving every color a fair chance, however, and yellow is trying its hardest to be a fashion favorite this spring. I've never been a huge fan of the color yellow but it's perfect for brightening up your outfit, perfect for color blocking and perfect for making a statement with a simple pair of blue jeans.
Typically, street style that catches my eye involves intricate layering, skirts, dresses and putting a lot of random pieces together. So when this Fashionista caught my eye while wearing a pair of basic blue jeans, I was impressed. As we're winding down in the end of this semester, putting outfits together becomes less of a priority and passing our finals becomes the main priority (well, for most of us). The truth is that some mornings we just want to throw on a tank top and a pair of jeans and feel good about ourselves; this Fashionista's bold yellow top is the perfect way to do that. Her silk, cutout bright top is available at BCBGMAXAZRIA (both online and in the stores). I'm usually not an advocate of jeans but when you have such a fun and bold top like this, jeans finish the look off perfectly.
Give yellow a chance; maybe it can brighten up your wardrobe enough to help you pass those final exams!
Okay, not literally yellow fever like the viral disease, but the term is the perfect description for this catchy trend. It’s slowly (emphasis on slowly) spreading like wild fire and is definitely brightening up campus. It’s unusual, and many are afraid to embrace the color because it is so bold and bright. Fear not though, yellow is here to brighten our lives. There are so many shades and hues of yellow that each skin tone can find a flattering color with some effort. Luckily (and scary) for us Angeleno's, the weather is absolutely perfect for this color.
This week’s Fashionista caught my eye from across the campus; I literally sprinted to catch up with her to snap a picture. I loved her yellow maxi skirt. I’ve seen a few fellow Fashionista's sporting the sheer maxi skirt with a layer underneath, but not in this particular color. Her black off-beat boots add a rough and tough look, but she is able to balance it out with a feminine white Oxford. Naturally her skirt is the essential piece to this ensemble, but her execution is exceptional.
Looking to catch the fever? Try this great dress. It’s simple but flattering and can be dressed in multiple different ways. Wear a simple cardigan and a cute pair of wedges with it to make a great day outfit. Not bold enough to wear a full all yellow? Try incorporating it into your outfit piece by piece. Maybe it is with a pair of shoes, an accessory or a top. Having a bit of yellow in your life will easily spice up your wardrobe and prepare you for the upcoming season.
So in conclusion, yellow is back and with a vengeance. It is in our faces and will be a large component to this season’s color pallet. Do not be afraid; it’s cheerful and fun and wants to be apart of your wardrobe.
Color can do a lot of things. Color is meaningful — white at a wedding, black at a funeral. Red is shorthand for passion while green symbolizes growth. A person’s favorite color can give you an abundance of information about their personality, and the colors someone chooses to wear on any given day can tell you just how they felt when they woke up that morning. Color is arguably one of the most important elements of any outfit.
What struck me about this Fashionista’s look was her highlighter-yellow hat. I saw it from across the street, and I was instantly smitten. I’m a sucker for any shade of yellow, and this particular hue made the cold, rainy day that much brighter. The fashion world has had a love affair with neon lately, from brilliant blues at Rachel Roy to acid-bright bags on fashion blogs, and this Fashionista is right on trend. I love the bright color on such an unexpected material, and this shade isn’t so jarring that it’s overwhelming. The yellow paired with the aqua and lilac stripes on her shirt makes a lovely color combination. The sweatshirt, oversized top, and fringed booties add a relaxed, downtown vibe, and no doubt kept her warm on such a blustery day.
To achieve a similar look, try this fiery orange beanie from Forever 21. If you’re looking for something a little more subdued, look for saturated colors, like this deep turquoise example from ASOS. This American Apparel bag comes in a variety of colors, and they just came out with a line of neon nail polishes to go with it. This week, let color do the talking.
