Style Guru Bio: Alex Zyndorf

My name is Alex Zyndorf and I’m a rising sophomore at the fashion school at Kent State University and I am also working towards a marketing minor. I’m so excited to join the summer Style Guru team and capture the unique and inspiring fashions I see around my city. Where I’m from may not be the most glamorous of cities but there are many Fashionista/os to make it fun!

I may have evolved from the denim jumper I wore to my first day of kindergarten and grown out of my Aéropostale days (thank goodness) but fashion has always been a part of who I am. From watching my mom get ready for a big night out and simply experimenting with my own wardrobe, my love for fashion has always been constant. I see fashion as a means of expression, both internally and externally. I would be lying if I said my love and passion for fashion came from anywhere other than my mother. She is my role model, my comic relief and her closet becomes my source of outfit creativity when I get sick of mine. Most importantly she believes in me and is there every step of the way. I am her absolute mini-me but I could not be more proud of the fact I am exactly like my mother, she is who I aspire to be.

When I was 16 I took a job as an intern at The Sophia Lustig Shop in Toledo, Ohio. A women’s boutique that opened its doors in 1936 and has earned recognition in Harper’s Bazaar for superior customer service and merchandising. The owner, a KSU alum, has taken me under her wing and taught me all the ins and outs of the fashion world and I cannot wait to dig deeper. It is here where I truly fell in love with both fashion and the industry itself.

Besides fashion I love to write and doodle in my journals, thrifting and trying new things. I have recently begun my own blog and am finding myself extremely interested in the growth and impact of the social media marketing. I get most of my inspiration from visiting new places and wandering around aimlessly. I am a girl of many hobbies and creativity has always been really important to me. I hope you enjoy my column as much as I'll enjoy writing it.
