Hey CollegeFashionistas/os, my name is Emily Spickler and I am a sophomore studying Journalism at West Virginia University. I’m originally from Shepherdstown, WV, but now call Morgantown, WV my home. My interest in fashion was sparked in a pretty unique way. Growing up in a tiny town in West Virginia, my exposure to fashion was fairly limited and only influenced by magazines like Teen Vogue and Seventeen. A couple of months before I went away to college, however, I was signed with a modeling agency in Baltimore, MD. Being able to travel with modeling has definitely opened my eyes to the world of fashion. That, combined with moving to a much larger city, has helped to cultivate my interest in fashion.
Like many of my fellow Style Gurus, I am a broke college student. In order to avoid taking out student loans to support my shopping habit, I can really only afford stores like Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, H&M and the occasional thrift store. In a perfect world, however, my closet would be full of designs by Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Oscar de la Renta. Designer or not, I believe that confidence is the biggest factor in rocking what you wear. I am very excited to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team and am ready to capture some of the style at West Virginia University.
