Style Guru Bio: Jonee Nunes

I'm Jonee Nunes and I'm a junior at Howard University majoring in Broadcast Journalism. I love to write but I LOVE fashion even more than that.  I’m very excited for this opportunity to share with students on other college campuses the vibrant ensembles seen daily at Howard University. The style at Howard is a combination of classic pieces, opulent colors and a touch of fierce inspired by the rich Washington, D.C. culture.

My personal style comes from a long childhood battle with my mother and my wardrobe. When I was determined to blend in with the crowd, she always challenged me to take my outfits to the next level and to never be afraid to look amazing. Of course, mother knows best, and today I’m grateful for her encouragement and for passing her sense of style on to me. I would define my style as classic with a sprinkle of modern trendiness.

I love watching fashion shows whenever I can (on the internet of course), and I can’t wait for the day that I can physically be there.  This summer while interning in NYC I was able to see the breathtakingly chic looks worn by busy New Yorkers. I completely fell head over heels with fashion after heading home after my internship and catching a glimpse inside the Helmut Lang studio; it looked like fashion heaven! These stylish people and the amazing city scene inspired my interest in street style. I love reading Teen Vogue, ELLE and InStyle magazine for inspiration. My favorite designers are Carven and Thakoon, and my favorite places to shop are Topshop, J.Crew and Gap. I’m thrilled to present to you fashion found on the Howard University scene.
