My name is Julianna and I am so excited to be a new Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this fall! I am a sophomore at Boston University studying Journalism and Italian Studies. My dream is to write for a publication geared towards life and styles, fashion, and travel.
I would say that my style is in a constant state of evolution with the tendency to go backward rather than forward in time. I derive fashion and style inspiration from a myriad of outlets, specifically cultural icons, artists, and musicians. In high school I would peruse my dad’s record collection, read Ginsberg, and desire to transport back to Woodstock 1969. At that time my staple pieces were my beloved Minnetonka fringe boots, gypsy-like rings, and band T-shirts. Since I chopped off 15 inches of hippie hair last June I have toned down my inner Janis Joplin and turned towards the streets of New York and Boston for style inspiration. Now I am definitely a sucker for dark skinny jeans and a pair brown oxfords, but the flower child in me will always adorn my fingers and wrists with turquoise, silver, and soft leather.
In essence, my style is rather eclectic. From my observations around campus and the city of Boston a lot of people seem to have a similar “in transition” style aesthetic as me. Many pull off classic Bostonian preppy with touches of distressed urban or ethereal bohemian. Just walking down BU’s very own runway, Commonwealth Avenue, it is apparent that the student body is quite fashion-conscious. I look forward to shining the CollegeFashionista “Spotlight” on BU’s trendsetters this fall!
