My name is Julianna and I am so excited to return to CollegeFashionista this spring as a Style Guru for Boston University! Last semester I wrote the weekly FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT and this semester I will be writing for the ALL ABOUT BEAUTY category every Thursday.
I would say that my style is in a constant state of evolution with the tendency to go backward rather than forward in time. In high school I lived in my fringed Minnetonka boots, flared jeans and band tees. Needless to say my wardrobe paid homage to the ‘60s, but it was my hair most of all that made me look like a Woodstock attendee. My brown hair flowed down to my waist and was as thick and wavy as Janis Joplin’s famous tresses. Since I started college though, I have turned to the streets of Boston and New York for style inspiration. Now I am definitely a sucker for a simple black blazer, dark skinny jeans, combat boots and playing up textures with furs and knits. My choppy bangs and tendency to wear minimal makeup fit my urban style and resemble two of my current beauty icons: Charlotte Gainsbourg and Leslie Feist. If I do “glam-up,” nine times out of ten my makeup regime will channel the ‘60s with a mod cat-eye wing.
In essence, my style is rather eclectic. From my observations around campus and the city of Boston a lot of people seem to have a similar “in-transition” style aesthetic as me. Many pull of classic New England preppy with touches of urban or bohemian. Just walking down BU’s very own runway, Commonwealth Avenue, it is apparent that the students are not only fashion-conscious, but also value their daily beauty regimes. I look forward to spotting and sharing BU’s hair, makeup and nails trends this spring!
