Style Guru Bio: Kellen Fitzgerald

My name is Kellen, and I am a 20-year-old college junior from New Hampshire with an affinity for photography, fashion and collaging. I am a Communications major and a Visual Arts and Business double minor at Fordham University. I am also a member of the women’s track and cross country teams at my school. As I begin my third year with CollegeFashionista and my second as a CollegeFashionista Head Style Guru, I not only have the privilege of expanding upon my own personal style, but I also have the opportunity to be inspired by those we feature on the site.

My wardrobe may best be described as multi-faceted. I find feminine ballet flats and ballerina-inspired skirts delightful, yet relaxed tees and academic-inspired blazers draw my eye time and time again. I feel most comfortable wearing a smorgasbord of delicate pieces paired with rugged or boyish items: distressed denim shorts over stockings and flats, paired with a strong-shouldered blazer and oversized tee, or perhaps a swinging skirt paired with sneakers and a blouse. Whatever the pairing, I try to strike a balance between elegance and effortlessness. Being a college student in New York City, I am constantly learning how to personalize the current trends in an affordable way. Any window display-worthy outfit can be achieved with resourcefulness and creative thought. To achieve balance within a look, I like to mix classic cuts with contemporary pieces, or trim androgynous fashions with a feminine touch. Every era and genre of fashion has something to offer, and by transforming the old and embracing the new, one can transform an everyday ensemble into truly unique art.

To give and receive inspiration is an opportunity to be valued, and by sharing the charisma and creativity of the CollegeFashionistas at Fordham, I hope to instill this same appreciation in our readers.
