My name is Kelsey Grad and I’m a junior at Emory University majoring in Chinese and Sociology. I love writing and fashion, so I am excited to combine both of my interests as a Style Guru this semester. I am originally form Mamaroneck, New York, a suburb of New York City. Growing up, I have always been interested in fashion. In high school, I took weekend classes with a friend at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where I learned about fashion merchandising and how to sketch. Also, my mother owns a women’s boutique in our town, so I have gained valuable hands-on experience within the retail industry over the years.
My hometown has definitely shaped my fashion choices. Living on the water, I grew up learning to sail and spent a lot of time at the beach. While my wardrobe contains numerous preppy elements such as stripes, bright colors and boat shoes, I would not describe my style as simple preppy. I love mixing classic pieces with unique accessories and shoes. At school, I try to look put together while also being comfortable all day. With my busy schedule, my go-to outfit is a fun colorful top with a pair of dark jeans tucked into great leather boots. I always accessorize with a wrist full of different bracelets and a watch. Right now, I love the jade beaded bracelets I brought back from my most recent trip to China. I believe that Emory students have a great sense of style, and I am excited to document the diverse fashion trends that can be seen everyday on Emory’s campus.
