Hello my fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Laura Cyrek, and this fall I will be beginning my junior year of college studying marketing and entrepreneurship at the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. I hope to someday be a big name in the business of fashion, but for now, my job is to observe, interpret, and maybe even inspire the street fashion we see on a day-to-day basis.
I spent last semester as a Style Guru for College Fashionista exposing some of Iowa's hidden gems of campus fashion. What I found was eye-opening and influential. While Iowa City is not in the least bit comparable to say, NYC, London, or Paris (all of which I have been lucky to visit), it certainly has its unique treasures. However, my job this summer will be a bit different. As a part time student at the College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn, IL and a full-time intern downtown Chicago, I am on quite a different journey. Instead of capturing the fashion of Iowa City, I will be discovering a completely different side of the art: the street fashion of downtown Chicago.
Personally, I am a complete fashion nut who adores bargain hunting and reading about the history of fashion. I've been known to strut in some pretty wild outfits. My friends once teased me when I wore a floral print skirt and a leopard tank together; little did they known I was inspired by a fantastic Dolce & Gabbana dress. I'll wear anything from H&M to Target to Stella McCartney. As the notorious Karl Lagerfeld has said, “This is what I think is modern. It's like wearing a couture jacket with a pair of jeans.” I've always believed that fashion is what you make of it, as it knows no bounds.
So, my glamorous Fashionistas/os, are you ready for a summer of fabulous fashion?!
