Style Guru Bio: Laura Zaharia

Hi fellow fashion lovers. My name is Laura, and I’m a senior Communications major at Fordham University. I’ve lived in New York for almost my entire life, and I think being in New York City has definitely fostered my love of fashion. I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Despite all the amazing stores that NYC has to offer, I used to be addicted to online shopping. However, after working at some of my favorite stores, I’ve learned the importance of trying things on before buying them. Just because something looks cute on the hanger doesn’t mean it’ll be flattering and vice versa. Working at these stores has also made me a smarter shopper, especially since I know that everything will go on sale at some point. When I’m not stalking sites like RueLaLa.com or Gilt.com, I can be found at a concert, trying a new yoga class, or reading fashion magazines. I actually just started an internship with a well-known fashion magazine, and I’m loving every minute of it so far. This opportunity makes writing for CollegeFashionista all the more exciting for me. One piece of advice that I can offer Fashionistas/os is to splurge on key pieces that will last forever, like a bag or good jewelry, and to save on basic layering pieces, like tank tops and leggings. Of course, feel free to make an exception on that T by Alexander Wang pocket tee shirt if you find yourself with some extra cash.
