Style Guru Bio: Lemuel David

Hey guys I’m Lem, so I guess I’m letting you know a little about me. I’m a sophomore in the Fashion Design Program at Virginia Commonwealth University. Fashion is my passion whether it is design or styling. It is definitely an art form; from the creating of garments to the mixing and matching of pieces to even speaking your mind through the way you wear a jacket. I love designers like Betsy Johnson, Anna Sui and even more classic ones like Kenzo Takada who are out there in their design technique and to me concentrate on creating a fantasy world with their outfits. They show that taking risks is rewarding, which is something I am learning to do.

I love the 90’s, I think it was a time fashion was fun and free also experimental, Japanese Fashion also is so cutting edge to me with the mix of old and new. I’m greatly inspired by music and artists also. They kind of all make me and shape my view of the fashion world. Lady Miss Kier of Deee Lite is one of those music and style icons; she is the epitome of taking risks – a trait a person in a creative field such as Fashion should always have. Gwen Stefani creator L.A.M.B and member of the band No Doubt is another one of those risqué people. Her style is impeccable and she definitely mixes her music and style to create imagery and build a whole new world. My style on the other hand even though inspired is pretty basic I love the simple silhouettes…well being a guy there’s not much to choose from silhouette-wise, but I’m that guy wearing the cardigan and cool tee with dark wash jeans. Overall I hope to bring another point of view on fashion to CollegeFashionista and I am so excited to be one of the VCU Style Gurus.
