Style Guru Bio: Lindsay Sustarsic

Hey there Fashionistas! My name is Lindsay Sustarsic and I am beyond excited to be a Style Guru for College Fashionista! I am currently a rising junior at GWU and am majoring in marketing.

Fashion has been an integral part of my life since I was a little girl. My mother worked in the industry, so she made sure I was the best-dressed tot in the sandbox. After logging many hours as her go-to shopping partner and international trend-scouting companion, I was able to cultivate my own personal style and love of contemporary fashion. Instead of gravitating towards one look, I developed a preference to mix and match trends and accumulate a trendy eclectic wardrobe. I love to play with layers and usually pair skinny bottoms with a looser top in order to create plenty of contrast. This is a constant pattern in all of my outfits, whether I feel like being preppy, bohemian or full-fledged rocker chic.

The fashion icons that have most inspired my sense of style over the years are Alison Mosshart, Kate Moss, Mary-Kate Olsen, Agyness Deyn, and Elle Fanning. While all of these women differ in profession and age, they all share an eclectic style, confidence to branch out from the norm and have all achieved “it-girl” status as muses to the fashion world.

Entering college, I had an internship with a Los Angeles based global fashion brand, GUESS? Inc. I was exposed to trend forecasting and the full product cycle through working in the buying/merchandising, visual, planning, and allocation departments. Last summer, I continued my internship for GUESS? in the special events and marketing departments. I had the opportunity to help plan events on both coasts, including NYC and Rodeo Drive’s Fashions Night Out. During my sophomore year, I worked as a sales associate for Madewell, a store that caters to a wide age and style demographic.  These experiences have greatly contributed to my passion for this industry.

I look forward to reporting the upcoming trends and styles I see among college students. Be photo-ready and dressed to impress colonials! I’ve got my camera and will be scouting stylish students!
