I am the kind of girl that considers leopard print a neutral, is never afraid to rock a red lip and counts New York Fashion Week as a national holiday. You see, I was born into the arms of a Fashionista – my mother – a women who never followed the “no white after labor day” rule and can rarely be found in heels less than 3 inches tall. But while these are all things that contribute to my Fashionista-hood, I have learned throughout the years – especially my years as a college student – that being a true Fashionista goes beyond rocking that perfect pair of heels and a new designer handbag. During my most recent venture as a personal style blogger I discovered the secret to being a College Fashionista – on a budget – by rediscovering the gems that were ALREADY in my closet.
I have always been one to pull sartorial inspiration from everything I see whether it be from a magazine or a street style look. However, when looking for inspiration, my past mindset used to be “I need to go out and buy something like that,” instead of “What do I have in my own closet that I could use to recreate this look?” Now when I see Olivia Palermo rocking the latest fall trend I find joy in running to my closet instead of to the mall. For me, fashion has always been fun but my view of what makes it fun is totally different. That’s right, I am currently in a love affair with my closet and there is no turning back now.
