My name is Ridhima Chopra and I am so thrilled to be a Style Guru with CollegeFashionista this spring. I am currently a sophomore at George Washington University, in D.C., studying Criminal Justice and Business Administration.
While I could say that fashion is my true passion, which believe me it is, in reality, fashion is in my blood. Not only have I grown up around women who have impeccable taste and an eye for the exquisite, but I have also been taught to appreciate fashion for the wearable art that it is. Ever since I was a little girl, I was constantly walking around in my mother’s heels and trying on all of her jewelry, but as I got older, and unlike most girls, I never grew out of those habits – instead, I only immersed myself in her style and grace that she presented in all forms of art, mainly interior design.
I believe in simplicity: in life, in style, in thinking — clothes should be comfortable, yet chic, and most importantly, classic. I have used this philosophy throughout my life and it has played a huge part in shaping my sense of style. My love for clean cut trousers and pants, combined with flowy blouses with small details such as bows or ruffles, allows me to find a statement piece in each outfit…and of course, there is always a fun balance of colors, the lack of control and impulse to by a neon or pastel accessory is only natural!
I find a lot of fashion inspiration on the streets and where I travel; it’s always interesting to see what my friends are wearing and mesh it with my favorite international looks. Being an American-raised Indian, I have inherited a love for jewelry and a knack for accessorizing. Watching the women in my family create looks based on the jewelry they have collected around the world, each with a different story, painted a whole new look of fashion for me. What we wear should tell a story and be representative of the type of person we want the world to see us as.
That being said, I cannot wait to report my STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK throughout the spring, and hope to inspire you to try and incorporate new looks into your wardrobe and truly represent who you are through fashion!
