“Fashions fade, style is eternal,” was said beautifully by Yves Saint Laurent. That quote defines my fashion choices. My name is Selina Wang and I am a CollegeFashionista Style Guru for the University of Iowa. I am currently a senior and studying Communications, Art and working on completing my entrepreneurship certificate. My love for fashion started when I was just a little girl. I was obsessed with makeup and pretty dresses and having bows in my hair. I loved bright colors, anything that shined and soft materials.
Since then, I am still obsessed with makeup and pretty dresses, but not so much with having bows in my hair. I'm still drawn to colors that pop, shiny objects and materials that feel soft. My style has remained the same and I have learned to stick true to what fits me. My closet must-haves are blazers, sweaters, black jeans and a lot of footwear. Fashion trends come and go, but classic staples always remain. I have learned to not let fashion wear me, but to fit that trend into my own style. What you wear should not define you but rather who you are defines what you wear.
My biggest advice to Fashionistas is to not be afraid to try new things. Change in your wardrobe can be a good thing. It can lead to polishing your style and becoming more sophisticated. Trends can be great but if it doesn’t suit your style or fit your body don’t feel like you’re in the wrong. Fit and cut are above all the most important factors to what looks good. Always remember to wear what makes you look and feel best.
