Style Guru Bio: Suzanne Saltzer

I have always been intrigued by fashion’s powerful ability to speak volumes without words being said. It evokes emotions, and can cause people to gravitate or withdraw from one another by first impressions. Fashion can hint at the stages someone is experiencing in life, as it often reflects our mood. It can even act as a historical timeline, chronicling us back to a specific time, place and memory.

In migrating up the coast to the University of Oregon in Eugene, it has been stimulating to become acquainted with the flavor of how the people of the great Northwest present themselves. I have experienced quite the transition from my fashion roots in Los Angeles, home to the stars, the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, to the crisp casual attire of Eugene. This college town has an affinity for a classic leather boot and North Face jacket to keep us warm and dry from the rain. I have been presented with quite the challenge of adjusting from year round summer dresses to savvy wintery get-ups. In this climate, unique layering methods, textured scarves, brightly colored leggings and girls who know how to rock a combat boot inspire me.

A majority of my closet is comprised of thrift shop finds that have been reinvented, adjusted to my shape and spiced up with timeless accessories. I love outfits that are able to meld different fashion decades together, putting a modern spin on the classics. I am absolutely thrilled to embark on my first fashion endeavor as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I can’t wait to get my creative juices flowing and capture the unique Oregonian flare.
