What’s In My Bag—A Guide for a Stress-Free School Year

It’s almost that time of the year again. School time! Being in school can be very stressful sometimes, especially in combination with extracurricular activities, a job, volunteer work, and a social life. One thing I’ve learned is that being stressed hinders my productivity. No one wants to go through the school year stressed, so here are some items that you should keep in your bag to ensure a stress-free school year.

1—A planner. Keeping a planner is one of the best ways to stay organized, which in turn leads to less stress. Trying to remember multiple dates is incredibly difficult. Having the dates written down and being able to visualize your schedule will help with productivity and prioritizing. Not only are they helpful, but they are fun to personalize! There are many planners like this Ban.do planner that are cute and leave room for plenty of personal notes. Use sticky notes and different colored pens for ultimate organization.

2—Water. Staying hydrated is important to make sure you are feeling your best. Thankfully, there are many ways to keep hydrated. The most obvious way is to drink water, which does not have to be boring. Add some fruit to your water for some flavor and freshness. Another great way to stay hydrated is by using rose water face spray. It’s refreshing, smells good, and hydrates your skin. It’s also a great tool to keep you awake during those all nighters!

3—Earbuds. I think we all know that earbuds are a must when it comes to the school year. Sometimes walking across campus can take some time, so you might as well enjoy it with some music. Additionally, music is a great stress reliever. Earbuds are necessary for places such as the library, where you will probably do most of your work. I recommend keeping a pair in each bag if you have more than one.

Enjoy the school year by leaving the stress behind! Pick up a cute water bottle and planner next time you’re at the store and the student in you will thank you at the end of the semester.

How to Style Cropped Pants

The cropped pants trend has been around for a while now, but I have always shied away from it. It was due to the fact that whenever I came across one that I liked, there was always something wrong with. It was too short for my long legs or looked awkward on me.

I found this pair of black cropped pants online in the spring, and they’ve been just sitting in my closet. It’s finally time to style them. It’s definitely easy to get too hot if you aren’t careful, but they are so fun and different, even though I like experimenting with style, items such as these cropped pants can be a little intimidating sometimes!

The way I’m tackling this cropped pants trend is by keeping the pieces simple and monochromatic, I styled these pants with a tan colored blouse and gold slides. This is a look I wore to one of the events at The CF Clubhouse. I was at school before attending the events and this look was very comfortable and breezy.

These pants are definitely a staple piece in my closet. I like that they are very versatile and easy to style. l styled them with this off-the-shoulder top to tone it down a little bit and give it a good balance. This blush colored top adds a little bit of color and personality to the look. I wore this look to brunch in Nolita and did some shopping after. I paired it with these black mules and was very happy walking around all day with them because they did not hurt my feet whatsoever, which mules tend to do to me.

I added this crossbody bag, and it’s not as small as it looks! It carried all my necessities. I had a lot of fun finding different ways to style these cropped pants, and can’t wait to find more stylish ways to wear it.

The Standout Trend of the Summer

The seasons have changed and so has the fashion selection. This summer is a time for a brightly colored bag, crop tops, and aviator sunglasses. This Fashionista is rocking just that! Her style includes all of the summer’s trendy statement pieces. This Fashionista’s look is perfect for a summer day!

If there is one thing I love for any season, it’s a good quality handbag. Since I always feel attached to my bag, it has become a central piece for my fashion choices. Fashionistas everywhere may find that bags serve a purpose besides helping to hold every needed item for a day (or night) on the run. Especially during summer, Fashionistas are noticing that a bright bag can be used as a statement piece. Also, most individuals who carry pink, yellow, light blue, etc. bags will get attention from everyone who sees.

This Fashionista paired her bright pink bag with a neutral crop top and high-waisted jeans. She also wore a ton of accessories. Another focal point of this outfit is the accessories that tie together the selection. She was wearing bracelets, rings, reflective sunglasses, and more. The saying goes, “Sometimes less is more,” yet, sometimes, to create the perfect look, more is more.

In this look, the colors do not stop with the bag. In fact, this fashionista is highlighting her outfit even more with help from a colorful pair of sandals. The colors stand out compared to the muted crop top and jeans. The subdued top and bottoms allow for the accessories and other components to shine. The color choice for accessories and clothing are equally important!

One could transition this look from day to night by adding a light jacket. Any type of jacket can match. Whether it is a bright bomber jacket or a plain denim, the outfit will shine. Furthermore, one could switch out the sandals for a darker pair so that way the bag pops even more during a night out on the town.

The 7 Beauty Products You Must Have While Traveling

Let’s be real, every time we travel, especially in summer, we prefer not to wear makeup. Though, if you are like me, you will always bring your favorite beauty products with you, so you can look stunning at any time.

I know it’s not always easy to pick the products you want to travel with because at airports not all sizes are allowed. But no worries! After doing a lot of traveling, I found them—so let’s begin.

1—Moisturizer. Moisturizing your skin is crucial during any trip. The sun can dehydrate your skin after a long time of exposure. The Skin Energy Aqua Recharge Gel by Juvena or the Water Drop Hydrating Moisturizer by Dr. Jart+  both are water-based moisturizers which work well anywhere in the world because they are lightweight and blend perfectly into your skin.

2—Beauty balm. If you are anything like me while traveling, you like to wear some coverage, but you don’t want to feel like you have a heavy layer of foundation on. The Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 is an incredible product to use to add some coverage and it fits perfectly in any bag.

3—Highlighter. I know highlighter is not for everyone, but adding a little glow to your face is never a wrong move, especially when you are going to be with the same makeup all day. The Wonderful Cushion Natural Glow Face Luminizer by Sephora Collection is amazing for summer and it also gives you the ideal pink glow any time of the day.

4—Bronzer. As long as you are touring, you are going to take pictures. You want your face to have a warmer and tanner look even though you have just started your vacation. The Hoola Matte Bronzer Mini by Benefit is the product to bring around the city and finish your looks.

5—Mascara. If you don’t want to wear anything else during your trip, the option of applying it alone is perfect. This product makes your eyes look bigger as well as give you longer and thicker lashes, focusing the attention on your eyes.

6—Beauty blender. You don’t want to get your hands dirty while doing your makeup—particularly when you are traveling—so find a beauty blender because is going to become your best friend. It is going to help you blend and look as natural as you want.

7—Eye mask. After the long days visiting places, there is nothing better than coming to your hotel room, washing your face, and putting on an eye mask. Eye masks are easy to use and very relaxing. They also contain many beneficial ingredients that penetrate into your skin, leaving you looking flawless.

Expressing Yourself One Outfit at a Time

Fashion is important because people represent themselves by what they wear. This is why it is important to have fun expressing yourself in different patterns and colors! Similar to my personality, my style is all over the place. For an ideal “Camilla” outfit, I try to mix vibrant colors, without becoming too chaotic.

For anyone that knows me, my go-to top is always a sleeveless turtleneck. In my opinion, this type of shirt is very classy, while not being too conservative by revealing one’s arms. Plus, in this specific outfit, the black color is enough to keep all of the other colors in my outfit under control.

My bag has been an essential to me for a few years. It is almost like my personality security blanket. I started off with the plain brown bag from Anthropologie, which I immediately fell in love with for its simple but professional look. A while ago, I became obsessed with pins, and I decided to start building my collection onto the strap of my bag. This way, I have an assortment of colors, but the buttons themselves are displayed in a neat manner.

In the beginnings of teaching myself how to embroider, I embroidered the quote, “If I could only find a note to make you understand” onto the flap of the purse, for further customization. It is important to be creative with any type of bag, journal, or other items that you will be using often. For example, I had a shirt with many fabric butterflies sewn on, and when one fell off of my shirt, I simply sewed it on to my bag. In addition to all of the above, I have put on two enamel pins as finishing touches. The feminist pin is for women empowerment and the “born annoyed” pin is more of a comical feature.

The patterned pants that I am wearing in this look are one of the many colorful pants that I own. These types of pants are a necessity for me, because they are incredibly comfortable, as well as very stylish. With the crazy patterns and colors, they make anyone sure to pop out of a crowd! These specific pants are high-waisted and make my legs look a lot longer than they truly are. I love them because they add more chaos to my outfit, and the colors are beautifully mismatched with my bag.

If These Bags Don’t Scream “Summer” I Don’t Know What Does

In this day and age as our phones get bigger and women’s jean pockets seem to get smaller (or disappear altogether), carrying a purse becomes essential. Filling a bag is never hard. Tossing in your phone, wallet, keys, and lipstick of the day is a must; litter the bottom of the bag with receipt paper and spare change, and I think you can consider yourself a classic American woman.

But not every purse is up to the challenge of your adventure of the day. Sometimes you don’t need to bring your massive Mary Poppins bag to dinner, or you need more than a clutch for a beach day. I’ve selected the perfect summer bags to tackle any day filled with sun and sand ahead of you.

The Camera Satchel Bag: This bag fits it all without looking bulky and weighing you down. Choose a satchel bag that easily stashes away your camera, wallet, and any other essentials for the day ahead of you. This purse will also serve well in the fall to carry your school notebooks or photoshoot essentials. I chose my bag in a sweet terra-cotta color, dancing on the spectrum of “millennial pink” for a classic cool girl vibe. Pair the purse with a sundress and block heels, and go explore some historical city streets.

The Mini Backpack: This small backpack fit a lot more than I ever expected it to. This was my vacation purse that I toted around with me when I was on island time, stashing away my small wallet, passport, and even my camera inside. The double straps of the backpack make it easier to adventure hands-free, and the size doesn’t slow you down. The mini size makes you look stylish, not just like a student. Pair with your favorite pair of denim shorts, tennis shoes, and power slogan t-shirt.

The Posh Beach Tote: Just because you’re going to the beach doesn’t mean you can’t look fashionable beyond your bathing suit. Stow your towel and sunscreen in a heavy duty and waterproof tote bag that doesn’t scream soccer mom. I took mine to the beach the other day and the tide tried to take it way, but it held up! Talk about durability. Also, the pebbled leather look and tassel element to this bag takes your beach day up a notch. Style with your favorite bikini and sandals.

Stay On-Trend With These Summer Essentials

It’s time to transition our closets from spring favorites to summer delicacies. Summer may be one of the most freeing times for styling, as many of us are abandoning our stressful college days for a few rejuvenating months in the sun. Goodbye comfort, hello fashion!

Summer is the time to accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. With the hot days and the need for some UV Rays, it’s easy to grab a floppy hat and glasses to protect from the sun. Always remember to add a layer of sunscreen to your daily makeup routine—if you don’t already. The best way to prolong wrinkles is to protect your skin on a daily basis.

Cover-ups

Whether you are heading to and from the beach or just a little chilly, a cover-up will definitely come in handy. Choose a long, silky, kimono-style to maximize the summer vibes.

Tote bags

There’s no telling where the day will take us in the summer. It’s best to have a big tote to fit the essentials. Stick with a color that will fit most outfits such as brown

Sandals

The whole idea of summer is narrowed down into one essential image: slip-on shoes. Quick trip to the store? Slip-on sandals. Heading to the beach? Slip-on sandals. Hanging out with friends for the day? You guessed it: slip-on sandals. No more winter fuss with laces and boots. The majority of the summer will be spent with the easy slip-on and off cute, trendy sandals.

Button-downs

Many of us either already have or are interested in a summer job. If your job does not require a uniform, then you are free to dress as stylish as you want. Although this may leave you feeling defeated as you stare at the limited work-appropriate clothing options in your closet. Pro tip: purchase basic button-downs for occasions like these. They can be paired with dress pants, jeans, pencil skirts, and shorts. With just this one article of clothing, you have countless outfit options.

Maxi dresses

Nothing says summer like a floor length, flowing dress. A maxi dress is simple enough to wear to casual occasions, yet trendy enough to stand out from the crowd. Dress it up or dress it down; no matter the occasion, a maxi dress is a viable option.

Flared sleeves

Do not fear long sleeves in the summer! There are plenty of breathable fabrics that will keep you cool on even the hottest of days. Choose a non-clingy fabric with a flared-sleeve or off-the-shoulder style. The versatility that comes with layering in the summer is tremendous. Imagine a hot day on the beach that turns into a chilly night on the town. A long sleeve shirt and a tote—to carry those sandy, wet bathing suits—will be your best friend.

So, while shopping for your summer wardrobe, keep in mind these few essentials!

3 Travel Must-haves

Currently, I am in California traveling. I have visited many places, spending hours in the car, but it is well worth it. First, I went to San Francisco, where the weather was cooler which meant layering up. Then, I went to Los Angeles. Los Angeles is known for its bohemian and edgy fashion. There the weather was warmer, and I could bring out my denim skirt. For this trip, I had to pack my three travel essentials that I wore with most of my outfits. I wore this outfit in Los Angeles, and it was perfect for touring the City of Angels.

These are my three essentials for traveling.

1—Bucket HandbagThis bucket bag is necessary because it can carry everything you need for the day. I can fit my phone, wallet, and even my camera. It also has a pouch perfect for safely storing sunglasses. I chose this black one from Forever 21 with gold details that can complement any outfit.

2—Platform SandalsThese sandals are a lifesaver when the day involves tons of walking. They are very comfortable, and I wore them walking up San Francisco’s steep hills with no effort. I chose the black style because I can wear them with anything. The platform gives height, and it’s the best option for everyday use.

3—Buckle BeltA belt is both practical and stylish. I got my belt from Brandy Melville, and it was very affordable. The buckle detail completes any outfit seamlessly. I wore it with my denim embroidered skirt. A belt can add the final touch to any look.

These three items were vital to each of my outfits on my trip to California, and are vital for any Fashionista’s travels. A bucket handbag can fit anything you need for the day. Buy some platform sandals for traveling. Finally, a buckle belt is an essential accessory perfect for completing any look.

What’s In My Bag This Summer?

Whether you’re off to an internship, getting dinner with friends, or just trying to make it to class on time, you’re going to need all of your summer essentials in one place: your go-to bag. Personally, my go-to bag is a Longchamp knockoff that my lovely roommate bought for me in Vietnam. I take it everywhere and it’s big enough to hold my whole life. That being said, here are the best things to keep on you at all times while juggling a social life, work, and school this summer.

I could not go anywhere without my phone, headphones, or laptop. Mainly because they are my vital sources of entertainment, but also because I need them for homework and more important work-related activities. On my Spotify app, I am currently listening to a mixture of Khalid’s American Teen album, lots of Frank Ocean, old and new Kendrick, and Anderson .Paak. When I’m not doing homework on my laptop, my favorite Netflix/HBO shows to binge watch are The Office, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Aside from social media sources, I always keep a plethora of beauty products in my bag. Michigan summers are humid; therefore, I sweat and my face gets oily. For that, I need a constant source of hydration and Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray is my absolute favorite. I also carry sunscreen for my pale, freckled skin, men’s deodorant (smells better/works better), my favorite lip balm, mini perfume, nail polish (for those awful chips), and mascara.

Since most college students tend to have busy summers, it’s nice to have something to take your mind off of your hectic schedule. For that reason, I carry a good book like To Kill a Mockingbird around (find more great reads here), plus some markers, a notebook, and a little makeup pouch that I use as a pencil case.

Lastly, I never go anywhere without my beloved Ray-Ban Clubmasters; a present from my mom on my sixteenth birthday that I have cherished and managed not to lose since. Next to that, I like to keep a baseball hat, an extra jacket, and sneakers in case the weather changes on me, which tends to happen most days here in East Lansing.

All of these items are essential when it comes to keeping me in check, looking good, and being prepared for what the day throws at me. I wouldn’t survive my busy summer schedule without them!

How to Make the Office Your Runway

When the office is your runway you can’t exactly go all out à la Alexander McQueen, but don’t fret—you can definitely save those over the top looks for the weekends! This Fashionista shows us how she works the office with neutrals she can get away with while keeping it classy and professional.

Yes, it’s 2017, but office settings still have unspoken rules for attire. You can’t exactly wear a plunging neckline, but a little shoulder never never killed nobody. This Fashionista’s flowing off-the-shoulder top is a subtle statement. It’s modern look is perfect for a more laid-back office, but remember not all offices are alike! A shoulderless top in one office may be acceptable for an internship in fashion, but may not be the best choice for that government internship you landed in D.C. Always try to analyze your settings or maybe even ask a coworker what’s acceptable in that office.

Next, the neutral army green distressed pants are perfect for a laid-back office. Try these same pants without the distressed look for a more formal office. When it comes to the nude kitten heels, this is a no brainer, and, of course, you can wear them in a formal office or laid-back office!

Keep the jewelry simple and fresh for the office, something that is professional and crisp and wear jewelry that’s comfortable! A couple of rings and a statement necklace are always my go-to!

The nude bag is perfect with a job at an office or any internship this summer. It’s big enough to fit your planner, maybe a water bottle, lunch, and who knows. Maybe you need a change of outfit for that late lunch with your new boo?
