All the Best Shows to Binge-Watch This Fall

Even though September is full of changes, adjustments, and growing schedules, it’s important to enjoy what free time you have. Personally, I love to watch—well, binge-watch—my favorite shows. Though not maximally productive, I believe that entertainment and storytelling are such significant parts of culture. You can gain a lot from decompressing with a sweater, a warm blanket, and a Netflix subscription. The following shows are my personal picks for chilling out while also getting into the spirit of fall.

1—Gilmore Girls

When it comes to fall television, one of the first shows on my mind is always Gilmore Girls. The little town of Stars Hollow is the epitome of cozy—even when flowers are in bloom and the sun is shining. The tight-knit relationships of all the different characters mixed with a seemingly old-fashioned setting make for the perfect hot cocoa binge-watch session (with a cute mug, of course). Plus, Rory’s trials and tribulations with friends, school, and relationships often offer some pretty sound real-life advice.

2—Stranger Things

Second is the best, right? Stranger Things is the perfect addition to this list for a multitude of reasons. Not only is the show literally set in the fall of 1983, but the ’80s music, fashion, and overall vibe easily put the viewer in a mood most naturally paired with fall months. With season two set to premiere late this October, now is a better time than ever to put on some snuggly tacky socks and binge-watch. Stranger Things may be hyped-up to no end, but the hype is very much lived up to.

3—Master of None

If you’re a fan of laughing in general, then there is no reason why this Netflix-original shouldn’t be on your to-watch list. Comedian Aziz Ansari and writer Alan Yang, the creators of the show, never fail to deliver hilarious moments without traditional set-ups and punchlines. Master of None is clever, charming, and straight up funny: the perfect combination for back-to-school viewing. There’s also something about the New York City setting that always makes me feel transported and inspired.

4—The Vampire Diaries

Much like Gilmore Girls‘ town of Stars Hollow, The Vampire Diaries‘ setting of Mystic Falls provides a quaint small-town atmosphere that complements snugging-up this season. Of course, it goes without saying that the fantasy world of vampires, werewolves, and witches screams “Halloween.” Additionally, the outlandish drama of TVD’s core group of high schoolers often helps to distract me from any of my own problems or anxieties—even if just for 45 minutes.

What’s on your to-watch list for this season? I’d love to read your suggestions in the comments below! If you’re searching for other ways to get into the fall spirit, check out college fashionista’s Pinterest mood boards.

Athleisure—The Do’s and Don’ts

Athleisure is one of my favorite trends. There is nothing better than looking cute and being comfortable at the same time. Clothes that were once only for the gym have become acceptable to wear out and about when we all know you have zero intentions of working out. For someone who loves athletic clothes, but does not love to workout, this is the perfect trend for you.

Athleisure is a broad category that many different brands have created their own lines of. While some are more casual than others, others tend to be nicer than your average gym clothes. With such variety available, it is easy to wander astray. Since you can either buy actual athletic clothes or specifically athleisure wear, there are some key do’s and don’ts of this trend. I have compiled these guidelines into two simple lists that will leave you rocking the athleisure look this fall.

Do

1—Find what fits you best (i.e full-length leggings vs cropped leggings).

2—Keep it simple.

3—Cute sneakers.

4—Wear sports bras or bralettes.

5—Rock the athletic look when it is appropriate (class, errands, shopping).

Don’t

1—Wear two loose fitting items.

2—Wear too many bright colors.

3—Flip Flops or sandals.

4—Let your socks show.

This Fashionista followed all the do’s of the athleisure trend. She has long, slim legs, therefore the full-length leggings make her legs looks even longer, and fit her perfectly. She kept the whole outfit very simple by pairing black and white, which is always a great decision. She is wearing a simple white tank top with a sports bra to match. When it comes to athletic tank tops, many of them make your bra very visible, which is why it is very important to make sure whatever you are wearing underneath is not only cute but also matching. She paired her super simple outfit with all-black Nike sneakers. While I think you can absolutely pair a simple outfit like this with a colorful sneaker, it is always a safe bet to go with black.

Going out in athletic clothes to anywhere but the gym is a more recent trend, but it is a pretty awesome one because who doesn’t want to be comfortable when they are going to class or the grocery store?

Bringing Back The Denim Skirt

Denim skirts used to be all the hype when I was a fifth grader. I remember wearing my denim skirt with a shirt from the Mary-Kate and Ashley’s line that they used to sell and a pair of flats that probably didn’t even match. Fast forward to sixth grade through the end of high school, you wouldn’t catch me in a denim skirt to save my life! Of course though, like everything else, denim has made its way back and it’s bigger than ever. I now want all the denim skirts, light shades, dark shades, and all the in between shades.

Bringing It Back: The Denim Skirt

I snagged this denim skirt on sale and I fell absolutely in love. It has the perfect snug fit on my hips but also is extremely flattering toward the bottom of the skirt. For being a denim skirt, it is also very comfortable. Also, talking about bringing things back, I paired my the skirt with one of my favorite white off-the-shoulder tops. Off-the-shoulder tops are also my favorite and it instantly elevates any outfit. If you are wearing just plain jeans and add an off-the-shoulder top, your outfit will look instantly more put together.

Now onto my slides. Like everything else in this outfit, I’m obsessed with them. Slides are the easiest thing to put on and they look extremely chic with any outfit. I have probably bought about five pairs of slides this summer in so many different colors. If you are looking for a practical, comfortable, and chic shoe, grab a pair of slides!

How to Channel Basic Bohemian Summer Vibes

In the summer, it’s important to have some quick go-to styles that are easy to pull off. My biggest pet peeve is being too hot in my clothes when I’m out and about in the summer. When shopping, I tend to look for textures and materials that are lightweight and clothes that are easy to throw on and take off. I can wear these bohemian styles on a summer night out or a relaxing night in. Together these two outfits highlight the easy-going but versatile way to style your clothes by staying cool and comfy.

Textured jeans are quick to throw on and add some bohemian vibes to any outfit. I normally stay away from jeans in the summer, but these are form fitting in a way that isn’t skin tight. The color blocking on the pant legs is also a refreshing element that makes you look super trendy. Paired with a simple flowy top, these jeans are sure to make you stand out. I also tied the shirt up to give it a fun and flirty vibe. Throw on some summery canvas shoes, and you’re ready to go!

This second look is great for any occasion: a lunch by the beach, casual cocktails with your girls, or a lounge day. These linen pants can be dressed up or dressed down. Pair them with a cute pair of sandals to achieve this easy look. While it doesn’t have any particularly busy colors or textures, this look is flattering on anyone and easy to accessorize according to your style.

Each of these looks is fun and easy to wear all summer long. I know my wardrobe is full of easy-to-wear basics that can create looks like these to keep me cool and fashionable this summer!

Embrace Those Chilly Summer Days in Style

We all know there are days during summer that do not exactly fit into our warm weather style. Depending on where you live, the weather can be 85 degrees one week and change to the mid-50s the next. I’ve found some great styling tips for chilly days that guarantee warmth, while still staying on trend.

I collaborated with Ashley, a Fashionista who really knows just how to pair clothing that will create a casual and comfortable yet trendy outfit for colder summer weather. She explained that it’s all about layering lightweight pieces to achieve the perfect cozy look. She started off her look with a cotton high-low shirt to give dimension and movement to the outfit. The next step is adding some sort of oversize jacket, like the jean jacket worn in this look. This created an edgy vibe while also providing warmth to the outfit.

As for bottoms, this Fashionista is all about being comfortable yet cute, so she decided to wear black leggings to keep her warm. The leggings are simple and work nicely with the flowy shirt and jean jacket. To keep the look focused on the upper body, she wore some black Frye boots to match her black leggings.

Time to accessorize! Accessories are so important when it comes to a more laid-back look. By adding accessories like a patterned scarf and a choker, you can make this look your own and really show off your unique personal style. This Fashionista wore a neutral patterned scarf with funky beads to tie together her top half. As for jewelry, she chose a beaded choker and a simple silver chain.

This look will have you set for planning your style for summer. It is easy to recreate while adding your own touch of accessories and clothing to make it your own. Looks like this one that are easy to add or subtract pieces from are key when it comes to chilly days.

Simple and Chic Travel Outfit

Summer is finally here and one of the best things about this season is that many of us finally are on vacations and ready to travel. It seems like the style has been replaced by comfort and most of the people want to look casual to the point of wearing pajamas to the airport. It is completely understandable to prioritize comfort but as Fashionistas, style is never left behind. Here is what I chose to wear for a 10-hour plane ride. I hope you will be inspired by this look.

First of all, it is important to stay away from tight clothes and miniskirts, for example. I chose a classic white button-down shirt and my favorite pair of ripped jeans. It is a very basic combination but also comfortable, chic and versatile.

I also chose to combine a golden watch and a round shaped pair of gold sunglasses. I don’t usually wear too many accessories when traveling because it can be inconvenient and uncomfortable. Also, I never forget to get a pair sunglasses just in case I want to nap or to just hide a tired looking face. Of course, a bigger purse is a must-have to carry documents, snacks, chargers, and books.

Lastly, the most valuable rule when traveling: comfortable shoes. Mule shoes are not only cute and comfy but also super trendy right now. A backless shoe is the synonym of comfort and mule shoes can also be styled for both casual and dressy moments. I decided to wear a golden pair to match with my accessories.

How to Style Pride Looks

June: the month where the sun is shining and summer emerges. The month full of love and joyfulness. Where rainbows flourish and happiness fills the air; also known as Pride Month. As with any festival-esque event, I enjoy seeing the fashion and how everyone expresses their own style! I figured for this year’s Columbus Pride I would get a little bit crafty and DIY a few pieces, but you can shop similar items throughout this article.

My inspiration for these two outfits was cool and comfortable with a hint of rainbow. You can never go wrong with pairing a bralette and high-waisted shorts. They’re a summer staple! This way you can stay cool in the blazing summer heat but also look super cute. The other look is a basic cotton T-shirt with high-waisted shorts as well. I also paired few fun accessories to complete the looks. Try adding bracelets or layering necklaces to give them the old razzle dazzle.

Along with pairing fun accessories, shoes are key. Ever had a boring outfit but then the shoes are what make the look? Me too. Anyway, since you’ll most likely be doing a plethora of walking, find shoes comfortable enough so you can last the whole day. Converse are a classic that you can spice up with unique socks; in this case, I tie-dyed them.

If you not feeling the tennis shoe vibe, try out slides or sandals instead. You could make your look chicer by adding fur slides. Slides have become a huge trend anywhere from the tried and true Adidas slides to Rihanna’s Puma/Fenty fur slides. It’s a fun and comfortable way to add texture to your look as well.

Have fun with your summer style whether you’re attending an event or not. Be bold and try new things!

A Short Girl’s Guide to Wearing Long Dresses

Summer is here and what that means for most girls is the season of the sundresses and maxi skirts is back. I get told that I am short quite often, so I began feeling like I simply could not pull off the look of a long dress. This changed when I discovered the absolutely perfect maxi dress hanging at my local Ross. The pattern was too pretty to pass up and the length of the dress did scare me but I made sure I was following my tips along the way.

Tip number one: find a dress that cinches or has elastic at the waist. This allows for you to adjust the garment to fit to size without looking too bulky. Make sure that the dress also has adjustable straps so you can minimize the length as much as possible. This type of cut also gives the wearer the most control on how long the dress can be and how short it can go. This is my personal favorite route to take when shopping for a long dress.

Tip number two: find the perfect neutral wedges! Wedges are the perfect addition to a dress that is too long. This is perfect for dressing up the summer frocks or even for a casual style. If you’re wearing a white maxi dress and neutral wedges, throw on a denim jacket and you’re set! If wedges aren’t your type, you can opt for some block heeled sandals or even slightly heeled flats.

My final tip: use a belt. I’d go for a neutral colored skinny belt to match the best with the dress. With a belt, you have the ability to control the blouse part and the skirt part of a dress and keep it to your liking. This also allows for you to discreetly make the dress a perfect length, without it looking baggy.

How to be a Jean-ius this Summer

Summer is finally here, Fashionistas! Dresses, skirts, and shorts are all of my favorite reasons to wake up and get dressed during the summer months. I think the best part about it is convenience, because lets be honest, who doesn’t love just sliding on a dress and some Birkenstocks and going out the door. During these summer months, we look to find fashion that is both comfortable and stylish. Many, including myself, find themselves, on a repetitive cycle during the summer of T-shirt dresses and rompers. If you want a stylistic change, I have a JEANius suggestion.

This look, though different then what I would normally chose to wear, has now become a staple in my wardrobe. The outfit features one of my favorite trends of the summer, overalls. Overalls are something that I have wanted to purchase for quite sometime. My mom has pictures of herself from the late ’90s wearing overalls that were similar to the ones I own today. They are comfortable and can easily be styled in different ways. Overalls are very versatile, easily paired with a cute crop top or nice off-the-shoulder blouse. The pair I own have become my go-to piece for adding a little pizzazz to any outfit.

The top I chose to pair with my overalls is a white and blue striped off-the-shoulder blouse. I love shirts that feature an off-the-shoulder neckline, as they are very popular this summer. This top dresses up the outfit, since overalls by themselves tend to be more casual. I liked how the blouse wasn’t overbearing and the colors were subdued. So it is easier to be focused on the outfit as a whole, not on bits and pieces of it. The shirt, truly complements this retro classic look.

For me, summer fashion is all about expressing yourself. It is about wearing what is comfortable to you and creating a look that is unique to your own personality. This outfit describes my sense of style and personality quite well, comfortable yet well polished. It can be worn to a family barbecue or to an outing with friends. Whatever the case, I’m sure this outfit will make it onto your Instagram.

dictorsj061517

The completing touch of this outfit are my denim shoes. I have always been a fan of rocking something unexpected. The denim print on the shoes, mixed with the denim on the overalls, made the outfit feel instantly more stylish. It makes the retro, classic appeal of the overalls, more modern. My slip-on denim shoes bring a quirky side to the outfit. I have always been a huge fan of denim, as I’m sure many have. I have skirts, shirts, and tank tops and of course jeans. These shoes, however, are different. They draw attention to themselves, and to the outfit as a whole.

So, all in all, this outfit is the perfect contrast to your typical summer look. What’s your favorite summer trend? Let us know in the comments below!

This Staple Piece Will Save You from Summer Heat

We’ve all been wishing for it to be summer, and Mother Nature did not come to play—Today was almost 100 degrees. Because it is so hot out, I didn’t reach for my favorite pair of jeans for a casual outfit, and denim shorts can get a little boring for me, so I went for my denim skirt!

Denim skirts are a cute alternative for jeans when assembling a casual outfit in hot weather. I didn’t have a denim skirt at all for a while, but once it started getting warmer I was on the hunt for one that would fit me well. I found the denim skirt pictures at a thrift store. It was long, so I chopped it at the length I wanted.  Denim that has a raw edge or is frayed is a popular trend right now, so I didn’t hem the skirt so it could fray when I washed it.

I decided to follow another trend to finish the look. This time it was the lace-up trend. This gray ribbed short sleeve lace-up top is great because it’s lightweight and a nice twist on a basic piece. For shoes, I picked my iridescent Adidas Superstar sneakers.  Sneakers are always a comfy option, plus this style goes with a lot of things (which is why so many people own Adidas Superstars in various colors).

This is how I wear a denim skirt for an everyday, casual look.  You can definitely adjust it to fit your style or for the weather where you live.  You can also dress it up with accessories or heels.
