Must Have Trends for This Fall

School is coming in hot. Say goodbye to relaxing afternoons by the pool and a wide open schedule. Instead, it’s time to get hyped for snoozing alarms, color-coordinated notes, and all nighters. There is one thing that really gets me motivated to head back to campus besides seeing all my best friends… and it’s shopping! Seriously though—I’m one of those people that sits online for days shopping for all the latest trends and comes up with an exact list of all the must haves for the year… I suppose that’s just expected from a girl who dedicates her whole college career to researching and designing clothes. This is definitely my “thing.”

After quite a few miles logged walking from one end of the mall to the other and stalking some Italian women while in Italy this last semester, I have compiled a list of what I believe are the most popular trends for Fall’17 below. Please check it out and strut through campus if you dare… here’s what you need to find.

1— Grab some of your spring florals and add them to the cycle this fall. Layer them with subtly patterned jackets and dark colors.

2— These loafers came out of nowhere. Do yourself a favor and invest in a pair. They are so comfy, easy, and look great with any type of pant leg.

3— Bring on the cropped, wide leg trousers. Zara has many variations of this style. Also, every single Italian woman was wearing these last semester. Trends hit Europe first and these Italian ladies know what they’re doing. These pants are more comfortable than sweatpants.

4— Find some fringe. I made these earrings myself (super easy and cheap).

5— Red, red, red! Taylor Swift was just a few years early for this trend. Whether it’s just a pop on your lips or your entire shirt, you are definitely going to want this color to be part of your wardrobe.

Here’s How to Dress from NYC to Barcelona to China

No matter where we are in the world, one thing we all have in common is that we aren’t ready for summer to end. As we indulge into our last month of summer, this thought is always on our mind. I have been spending my three months traveling and consuming all of the cultures and experiences everywhere I go. From the United States to Europe to Asia, I’ve found myself diverging all kinds of cultures in my outfits. This look especially can be pulled off in any country that I need to check off. Keep reading to see how I put together a taste of each continent in this look!

One of my favorite styles by far this summer are wrap dresses. The asymmetrical lining is so flattering on the legs and the best part is that they’re always customizable in size since you tie it yourself! The front V-cut is also customizable with the adjustable straps! You can either wear it with a strapless bra for a cleaner cut look or rock it the way I did. I put on a simple white lace bralette, which to me, is much more comfortable in the summertime.

The color of this dress that I was able to find reminds me so much of summer! It could be worn strolling in Barcelona all while the print embodies an Asian floral pattern. I have been throwing on this dress all summer long, whether it’s a casual or more dressed up event, pairing it with different shoes.

This time around, I chose to pair it with these suede heeled sandals to dress it up. I love pairing this dress with a range of light and dark, nude colored sandals to find a balance between the light colored dress and my dark summer tan.

To finish the look off, I completed it with my current favorite sunglasses from Melt. Again, sticking to the neutral, warm tone.

Pair this outfit with a simple Y-shaped necklace and voila, the look is fit for a hot summer day in New York. If you’re in Barcelona, I’d throw on some flat sandals and curl the hair a bit to match the beautiful Spanish/European culture. As I find my way to Asia soon, I’ll be sure to bring this dress along and show off the print!

Finding such a versatile article of clothing is the best feeling for a Fashionista. What is your go-to outfit this summer that you would bring all around the world? I’d love to see what you guys have so don’t forget to tag @CFashionista on Instagram to share some looks! I’m looking forward to your outfits!

This Simple Hack Spruces Up Your Space For Less Than Your Latte

There’s nothing more summer than florals and flowers. They are beautiful and fragrant and can add some much needed color to any space. But flowers can be expensive, especially arrangements from the florist when you are on a college budget. But while you may not have the extra cash to buy an assortment of fresh roses, that doesn’t mean a little bit of flower power is far from reach. Read on to find out how you can brighten up your living space with less than $10.

1—Skip the florist. The florist may have the widest assortment of flowers, but they tend to have the highest prices too. Head to your local market to buy your flowers instead. A bunch of $15 daisies from the florist will probably be $5-$7 at the grocery store. Your options may be more limited but you that does not mean you will not still find a nice variety to choose from.

2—Avoid bouquets. Buying a bouquet skips the process of making your own arrangement, as well as provides a wider assortment of flowers, but it also heightens the price by double or more. A bouquet at the florist can start as high as $40, and even at the grocery they are often $25 dollars or more. Buy two (or more) $5 bunches and create your own assortments to get the most for your money.

3—Don’t worry about the vase. Unless you are making floral arrangements for a gift or special event, use whatever cute container you have lying around at home to house your flowers. Something as simple as a glass or a travel mug is perfect for small arrangements for your desk or bedside table. However, if you are in need of a classic vase or, perhaps, some cute mason jars, check out the stock at your local dollar store before taking a trip to the home goods store.

Girls’ Brunch Out

Whether you went to bed early and made it to 9 a.m. yoga or stayed out late the night before, brunch on Saturday morning with eggs, pancakes, and mimosas are necessary.

In New York City, it is the one meal that rules them all—which means your look should rule, too. It can be challenging to put together the perfect outfit that looks fabulous yet effortless. Here are three different summer outfits that will make your brunch egg-stra special!

1—Boho prints. Brunch was practically invented so you could have fun so why not experiment with some prints? Sara wears a flowy, printed dress that gives off a casual vibe paired with neutral color-block wedges. She gave the look a bit of edge with a silver jewelry, including a long layered necklace, teardrop earrings and a combination of large and small rings. This unexpected brunch look will make the people at the table next to you do a double take!

2—Bold yet functional. If you want something on trend but also comfy enough to hide the food baby you are about to get from all the pancakes, a jumpsuit is the way to go! This bold red one is a showstopper for the girl that wants to stand out. Paired with nude wedges and a tan floppy hat, this look gives you instant glam to sip those mimosas. Pick one you love and prepare yourself for compliments!

3—Soft florals. Florals for spring? Groundbreaking. Florals for summer? On point. This floral sundress is girly and almost as sweet as the french toast on the table. The cap sleeve and the button-down front add subtle details that go a long way. With natural face makeup and a pair of shades, it will take you no more than 10 minutes to get ready for brunch with the squad.

The Reason Why You Should Wear Florals This Summer

The floral season of summer is officially here! Everywhere I look there seems to be a new and different floral piece that I’m just dying to have. During the hot and humid weather, my go-to choice is typically a casual dress that I can wear to multiple events. This dress has been my most-worn piece this season because it’s easy and light for the warmer days. It’s a great option that I can wear to graduation parties, family gatherings, or just a casual day with friends.

I love wearing bright colors and patterns this time of year, so this style is one of my favorites! When it’s hot and humid out, I like to keep my accessories as light and simple as possible. I accessorized this look with gold hoops and some gold bangle bracelets. I added the comfiest pair of nude wedges that complement the floral dress rather than take away from its beautiful pattern. If I were to attend an event that was more formal, I would switch it up with a cute pair of strappy nude dress sandals.

There are so many possibilities when it comes to this style! I have seen so many patterns and pieces that you could dress up or dress down. This summer, I’ve been wearing maxi dresses for those weekends visiting farmer’s markets and art fairs. For any summer weddings, a floral cocktail dress is perfect! Wear a romper when you want to look fabulous and be comfy at the same time. Florals also come in handy with a casual top because you can’t have too many.

Even though we’re nearing August, there’s still plenty of time left to rock the floral trend. The fall fashion season is getting closer, so be sure to stock up on all the great summer sale items for next year!

Bohemian Vibes All Summer Long

Summers are full of beach days, ice cream, concerts, and of course bohemian outfits. Many Fashionistas love to channel their inner flower power throughout the season by putting together floral prints, gladiator sandals, and layered jewelry. The light and airy feel of a bohemian style is a relief in the hot, summer sun that we all know and love.

The true queen of boho, by far, is Vanessa Hudgens. All of her Coachella outfits and her street style is full of light clothing, fringe, and jewels. She also embraces the natural beach wave hair trend that follows the “boho” theme. Her looks are a great inspiration for young Style Gurus like this one. My sister loves to embrace the free spirit vibe that the bohemian style gives off. You could wear this kind of look anywhere—to the city with your friends, on an afternoon date, and even a summer concert.

I put together a light, floral blouse with her favorite pair of denim shorts, and then layered with some trendy jewelry. The floral print is a staple piece to any boho Style Guru’s closet.

Accessories are also a big part of bringing together a bohemian vibe. Layers of bracelets or necklaces are a common look. My sister made her bohemian style trendier by pairing a long gold necklace with a cut-out choker. The pair makes the cutest combination. She also added a light brown pair of gladiator sandals, which are another staple piece. Of course, every Fashionista needs a funky pair of sunglasses to throw on with any outfit before his or her day begins. I also adore this fringe crossbody bag. Fringe is the most popular detail that many Gurus focus on finding for a boho outfit.

As the summer continues, try and find your inner flower power with floral patterns and funky accessories. You’ll feel as though it’s Coachella all summer long!

How to Incorporate Matching Sets Into Your Summer Wardrobe

Sometimes picking the perfect outfit can be extremely time-consuming. Or maybe you’re just having one of those days where you don’t have the energy or the time to put together a head-turning look. It’s lazy moments like those that the latest spring and summer trend—matching sets—can be a lifesaver. In a matter of minutes, you can throw one on and look instantly put together, chic, and seem like you put some effort into your outfit without having to go through the hassle of having to combine a top and bottom.

As the fashion trends change, designers are bound to alter the styles and cuts of matching sets. And as the new seasons roll in, the colors, fabrics, and prints also tend to vary in order to match the color pallet and characteristics of the current season. At the peak of summer, it’s difficult to miss the bright colors and lightweight fabrics on the shop windows as the new trends hit the stores. And I am sure you have seen a few mannequins rocking matching sets on the windows of your favorite stores.

But the best thing about matching sets isn’t the colors and fabrics that they come in. If we are going to be honest here, my favorite thing about matching sets is that it’s a two-for-one kind of deal. Not only can you wear the set together, but you can also mix and match it with other items in your closet. Whether you’re dealing with a skirt, pants, or shorts, you can pair it with a variety of tops to create a casual or dressy look. Meanwhile, the top is just as versatile and can be worn with anything from denim to leather pants to your favorite shorts.

Whether you are looking to dress up or dress down your matching set, it’s all about the shoes you pair it with. It can be paired with sandals for an everyday casual look, or the latest trends in heels for work or a dressier look. It’s all up to you!

Keep matching sets in mind next time you’re out and about at the mall looking for a cute new outfit. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Summer, Florals, and Tassels, Oh My!

Warm sunny days, delicious brunch, days at the lake, and summer fashion galore. It’s mid-summertime and freckles are just starting to appear. Bright colors, floral prints, and sandals are everywhere you look on campus and downtown. This summer, in particular, I have noticed a lot of tassel earrings and floral fashions. So get ready, pull out your straw hats and market totes for a trip down floral and tassel lane!

Florals have always been a print for the seasons of spring and summer. Whether you wear a floral print as a top, dress, romper, shorts, pants, or even as an accessory, these are all great options! I paired my floral top with a white bralette both from Blue Arrow Boutique, a pair of white American Eagle jeans, bangles from Alex and Ani, and Guess wedges. Lucky for us Fashionistas, floral prints come in all different colors, bright or pastel, which creates a nice little section in your closet dedicated to those summer florals.

Another great summer trend that has been on the rise are tassels. Tassels have been worn from necklaces, earrings, keychains, to shoes. There are many different materials that tassel accessories are made from such as leather, beads, and lightweight yarn. I accessorized my outfit with tassels by having a necklace and a keychain from Crave by CRV. I always have loved tassel accents; they are a perfect way to add some color and flare to an outfit, keys, or a purse!

These are a few of my favorite summer trends. Florals, straw hats, white jeans, totes, and tassels are great for any occasion or vacation; you are bound to be complimented!

How to Turn One Outfit Into Four

With summer in full swing, it is time to prepare for road trips and weekend getaways. When we finally have a break from college and obligations, the best thing to do is pack a bag and head to a new destination. That being said, things can get a bit more complicated when you try to pack up your entire wardrobe for a three-day trip to the coast.

Packing the outfit for that one really cute Instagram photo is never beneficial for our travel bags. We are all guilty of over-packing because we want to be prepared for anything and everything. When in doubt pack it all, right? Wrong! Nobody wants to lug around a bag full of clothes that aren’t going to be worn. It can get a bit aggravating throwing a bunch of cute clothes into a bag and then realizing half of the options will remain in the bag, unworn for the entire trip.

On vacations in the past, I have noticed myself wearing the same article of clothing multiple times. We gravitate toward what is familiar and ultimately what feels the most comfortable when we are in unfamiliar places. Consider this before you pack a bag full of pointless items: Grab one clothing piece that is versatile, and then plan the rest of your outfits around that one piece.

For this article, I put together four different outfits using three different articles of clothing and three different accessories. I chose a white romper, a longline cardigan, and a floral spaghetti strapped dress. These items are easily paired with a black floppy hat, circle sunglasses, and brown sandals. Not only did these pieces fit well in a small duffle bag, they all work well to complement each other. Planning ahead not only saves you space, but also time and stress on your next relaxing vacation.

Outfit One

Romper, circle sunglasses, sandals

Outfit Two

Romper, longline cardigan, floppy hat, circle sunglasses, sandals

Outfit Three

Romper, spaghetti strap floral dress (tied), sandals

Outfit Four

Spaghetti strap floral dress, sandals, circle sunglasses

4 Summer Trends and Why They’re Essential

When summer rolls around, so do all of our favorites: Strappy sandals, shorts, tanks, and all the sundresses we’ve been waiting all winter to throw on. Floral patterns, graphic T-shirts, and everything high-waisted are our wardrobe essentials for summer 2017. What makes them essential? The fact that we can mix and match them to fit any of our fun, spur-of-the-moment summer activities.

First off, if there’s one thing you can’t skip over this summer, it’s your graphic T-shirt. Whether it’s a lazy Sunday brunch or a night out, graphic T-shirts are the easy go-to. What other pieces of clothing can easily be worn with skirts, jeans, and dresses? Throw on a baseball hat and it’s relaxed, or throw on a leather skirt and it’s edgy.

Second, of course, is bohemian floral patterns. Summer is full of activities that may call for formal attire. It’s the season for weddings, right? This means it’s an excuse to go shopping for a new dress. A floral patterned dress, like the graphic T-shirt, can be dressed up or worn casually. The nice thing is you won’t buy it and only wear it once. Heels dress it up while the right pair of sandals or sneakers can dress it down.

Third on the checklist: Anything high-waisted. They’re essential solely because they’re amazing. I currently own only high-waisted jeans, skirts, and shorts. My favorite swimsuit this summer is a high-wasted maroon suit from Urban Outfitters that’s perfect for beach days. The great thing about all of these amazing combos with your high-waisted pieces is that matching your shoes is super easy. Sneakers, sandals, or heels—it all works. My favorite denim skirt has gone with Adidas sneakers, strappy sandals, and of course, chunky heels.

And last but not least, the fourth item on the checklist is shoes. Your summer would be incomplete without getting yourself a pair of those chunky heels that we’re seeing everywhere. In my opinion, everyone needs at least one bright colored pair and one neutral colored pair such as olive or black. They look great with everything and are just too adorable to go without.
