All the Outfits to Wear This Recruitment Season

With formal recruitment right around the corner, many girls wonder what they should wear for this important week. Outfits are crucial for recruitment because it gives active members in each chapter the first impression on every girl that they talk to. Wearing cute shoes or a sparkly necklace can make girls more memorable. Of course, outfits are not everything, but it is important to have a guide as to what to wear each day. I will be explaining what most girls wear throughout formal recruitment, and will also be giving tips and tricks for this amazing week.

At San Diego State University, the outfits get progressively fancier as the week goes on. On the first day, a popular outfit that I saw was ruffled shorts, floral off-the-shoulder tops, and sandals. Many girls wear rompers, jean skirts, and a nice top. It is also fine to wear a simple dress on this day as well. The active members in the chapters will be wearing jeans or shorts so it is fine to dress more casual. I would recommend saving your fancy outfits for the end of the week.

As the days go on, girls wear wedges instead of sandals and classy dresses instead of jean skirts. On the third and fourth days, I saw long sleeve rompers, brown wedges, floral flare out dresses, and gold jewelry. The last night of formal recruitment is Preference Night and this is the fanciest day. You should be bringing out the most formal dress in your closet for this night. A royal blue dress with nude high heels would be a perfect outfit for the last day.

It is important to remember that the outfits for recruitment should be classy and put together. Also, make sure that your shoes are comfortable to walk in. You will be standing in these shoes for long periods of time in all of the houses. Bring flip-flops or sandals with you for walking in between houses since they can be far from each other. I would also recommend bringing a makeup bag and body spray to touch up in between events.

Formal recruitment can be a stressful time for everyone, but in the end, you will find which chapter you truly belong in. Outfits for recruitment may vary from person to person, but it is always important to stay true to yourself and to still show your unique fashion style. I hope this article helps out anyone who is preparing for formal recruitment in the upcoming weeks. Best of luck, and I hope all of your sorority and recruitment wishes come true!

4 Sweet Treats to Enjoy in NYC This Summer

New York City is known to have the hottest trends: food, fashion, you name it. I personally love to spend my summer searching for the newest food trends, enjoying s’mores around a campfire, or laying out in my backyard by the pool with a glass of homemade lemonade. Since it’s been such a hot summer so far, here are some sweet treats you can enjoy to cool you down.

1—Wowfulls. Wowfulls makes 1950s-style Hong Kong egg waffles served as a cone and filled with ice cream. It’s topped with anything you can think of from rainbow sprinkles to teddy grams. As they say, they’re “crispy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside.” It’s a perfect treat to walk the streets with.

2—Juicy Spot Cafe. Rolled ice cream is a trendy new summer treat that hits the sweet spot. The ice cream is made right in front of you on a frozen plate. You get to choose your flavor, mix-ins, and toppings. Juicy Spot Cafe is a great place to try out this dessert. I personally love mine with an overload of toppings.

3—BesfrenBesfren gives a popular twist on your average cookie. These triple chocolate chip cookies are bigger than the size of your head. They are insanely delicious and would make a perfect Boomerang by raising chocolate chip cookies for the perfect “cheers” moment with a friend. You can attempt to make them at home, and chow down while floating on a swan pool float.

4—Kelloggs NYCLast but not least, Kelloggs NYC has some mouthwatering milkshakes, not-your-average bowls of cereal, and much more. Paired with a white wall, a pair of sunglasses, and your choice of dessert, this picture would perfectly fit your Instagram aesthetic.

All of these summer treats are beyond Instagram-worthy, so go check them out to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The Most Important Thing to Make This School Year the Best One Yet

As this new school year creeps up on us and summer quickly ties to an end before we can even wave bye to our favorite beach days, there are quite a few things on our minds. The outfits, textbooks, room decor, hair appointments, school supplies, and much more will be at the top of most of our to-do lists these first few weeks school is starting. Although these things seem to be the most important things going on at the moment, there is one thing most might forget.

As most will be thinking about all of the materialistic things that are needed for a great school year, we must also remember to think of ourselves and our happiness. Amongst the hustle and bustle of a new school year starting, the most important thing most forget to keep up with is their own well-being.

The best gift we can give ourselves is happiness, so we must make sure we are still focusing on the things that make us our best selves. It is when you are doing what makes you happy that you shine the brightest. This energy can be seen from others around you and it is contagious!

Spread happiness by making sure you take some time during the busy schedule of the school year to do things that make you feel the best about yourself and bring you the most joy. Whether it’s shopping your favorite brands, watching the sun go down behind the water, taking a walk by yourself to get some space, picking wildflowers on a sunny day, or anything else, just make sure you find time for it every once in a while. By doing this you will hopefully realize that your happiness is the most important part of your mental health and that in between the chaos of new classes and the stress of those first assignments there is time to do what sets your soul on fire and be your happiest self!

The Perfect Outfit to Show Off at the Beach

Everyone needs a little sun during the warm summer days and the best way to do it is somewhere where there are palm trees and sand. A week full of candid pictures, animal floats, and sitting in the sand all day? Yes, please! Sometimes while in the hot Florida sun, it is difficult to find a fashionable summer outfit to keep you from not being too hot while still being a Fashionista. During the day it is all about bathing suits and sunscreen, but as the night comes along, the Fashionista comes out! I came across this beauty who was wearing the perfect summer outfit.

Let’s start with her shoes! They are black wedges with a gold zipper accent. Everyone should own a pair of these since they are so versatile. They are neutral so they match everything from jeans to a dress. Comfort is also a must with shoes at the beach. This Fashionista has a lot of walking to do from getting ice cream to shopping.

I also noticed how perfect her accessories were. I was drawn to her choice of mixed metal bracelets. On one wrist she is showing off a gold and silver rose bracelet which goes perfectly with her outfit. On the other, she has a couple Alex and Ani bracelets, which are so simple yet trendy. Sunglasses are also an absolute must while at the beach. In my opinion, they go with every outfit and are such a cute addition. She is also wearing a black hair tie—the importance of a hair tie is huge. Everyone needs to have one either on their wrist or in their purse, especially in Florida where the weather can be unpredictable. Sometimes a messy bun can be cute, too!

Her outfit is what really caught my eye. I would describe it as a business in the back and party in the front. This beautiful off-the-shoulder maxi skort romper really captures the beach feel. It captures many warm floral tones which coordinate perfectly with the beach. Maxi skort rompers are becoming popular and come in so many different fabrics and colors according to your event. It is unique and super trendy as well. It could be dressed down a little with just sandals, but worn with the wedges it dresses it up for going to a nice beach restaurant. Since it is a maxi dress in the back, it flows very well and is breathtaking for the beach. This beachy outfit is a definite head turner!

Everyone needs a little fun in the sun during warm summer days. Do not be afraid to wear something that most people will not—that is what makes you, you! When you are at the beach next time, show off your perfect outfit and tag us on social media at @Cfashionista.

The Makeup Collection That Stole My Heart This Summer

Out of all the fun things I’ve had the opportunity of doing so far this summer, attending a beauty event at The CF Clubhouse has certainly been one of my favorites. We had the pleasure of having a live makeup lesson by none other than Sephora Collection’s national makeup artist, Helen Phillips. Additionally, we were lucky enough to each receive a super cute gift bag filled with, you guessed it, Sephora Collection products!

Although I’ll admit I’m no Jaclyn Hill, I occasionally enjoy glamming up and treating myself to some makeup. And even when I have products from different beauty brands, after this event Sephora Collection is certainly the big winner, and here are a few reasons why.

1—The perfect moisturizer. When it comes to moisturizing, I have to be very selective on what products to use because I have very sensitive skin. Sephora Collection made my search a lot easier with their Instant Moisture+ Cream. It not only helps hydrate my skin but contrary to other moisturizers I’ve tried before, I don’t have to deal with that heavy feeling on me. I definitely recommend it.

2—Lip colors. If there is something I enjoy is trying new colors for my lips. So far I’ve either been a lipstick or a lip gloss kind of girl. However, Sephora Collection’s Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick has become my new favorite. Not only do they come in an array of beautiful colors, but they also last for hours, which are the two things I look for when it comes to coloring my lips. My ultimate favorite? Vintage Rosewood.

3—Lip liner. A new one for me; lip liner is something I’ve never really used before. Like I mentioned before, I usually keep it simple with lipstick or some lip gloss and off I go. But after our makeup master class with Helen, I decided to give it a try. This Rogue Gel Lip Liner certainly didn’t disappoint.

4—Mascara. Another confession I’ll make is that I used to think all mascaras were the same. I mean really, how can brushes with black liquid make your eyelashes look that different if they’re all the same shade, length, and have the same function? I’ll admit I was so wrong! There’s just something about Sephora Collection’s LashCraft. Between the lack of clumps and heaviness on my eyelashes, and it’s practical and cool design, this is another must in my makeup bag.

5—The finishing spray. Here’s another first timer for me. At this point, you’re probably wondering if I’ve been living under a rock. How has a respectable millennial Fashionista never put on a setting spray? Guess I just have a lot of faith on my makeup and do the occasional retouch through the day. Well, that is no longer a need thanks to Sephora Collection’s Beauty Amplifier. Not only does it keep my face fresh and my makeup in place for hours, I also love that it debunks the myth that all setting sprays leave a sticky-greasy feel. Certainly not the case with this beauty.

3 Summer Braided Hairstyles to Beat the Heat

Summer break has finally begun and so has the hot and humid days! What better way to keep your hair stylish and out of the way than some stylish braids? Braids are such a cute and effortless way to add personality to any look. Here are three easy braided hairstyles for a rad summer!

Mini Dutch Braids

Rows of Dutch braids are both edgy and chic. Keeping your hair out of your face while looking put-together. First, use a volume spray for a boost of texturized dimension. Part your hair into sections, (depending on how many braids you prefer) and braid your hair from your forehead to your crown. For a fuller look, loosen each braid by gently pulling on the braid. Spritz some hairspray and you are finished!

Pool Side French Braids

Summer is for swimming, which leaves little time to worry about how your hair looks. Two French braids are the perfect go-to summer hairstyle. This hairstyle keeps your hair secure while looking adorable! Apply an ocean mist to your hair before braiding to enhance the beachy wave look, after drying off poolside.

Dutch Braided Space Buns

This sassy and fun look keeps you looking light-hearted for a summer night out. Perfect for humid weather, while your hair is out of the way as well as being the talking point of the night. Part your hair into two sections, Dutch braiding from the back of your hair towards the front where your bun will lay. Secure each braid with a mini-rubber hair band. The remaining hair will wrap up into a bobby-pined space bun. Now, you are ready to rock your girls night out!

Girly and Flirty

Have a date tonight and just can’t put together what to wear? Have a night out with the girls and have no idea whether to funk it up, keep it casual, or girly? Tune in to see a girly and flirty wear you can pull of at home!

With the sun beaming down, skies bluer, grass greener, and birds chirping it is time to break out your favorite pair of gladiators and sun dresses. A great way to expand your closet for the warm days to come is jumpsuits—a sophisticated fashion statement that is loose, breezy, and still works great for those chilly summer nights.

This Fashionista is rocking a beautiful blush-pink jumpsuit from Forever 21, pairing the jumpsuit with nude point-toed strappy heels from Charlotte Russe. This outfit works perfectly for any occasion, from a night out with the girls to a hot date out into town. Spice it up with a nude leather jacket to match those heels for the chilly summer nights and you are good to go!

All in all, there is an endless amount of possibilities you can pick and choose from when styling jumpsuits. You can dress a jumpsuit down for occasions such as brunch by pairing the jumpsuit of your choice with a statement sandal and maybe even a jean jacket. You can even add your very own original twist by picking out statement heels, a high-waisted belt to add on, and a choker. Pair that with an up-do and you are ready to hit the party scenes!

The Trendiest Two-Piece Outfit to Rock This Summer

Hello, July! It’s finally truly summer. It’s heating up outside, and so should your outfit choices. I have found an adorable outfit that is on trend and will have those boys melting like a popsicle on the Fourth of July.

Matching two-piece outfits are making a huge statement this summer. You may remember your mom dressing you in matching sets as a child, but today they are all grown up and being worn by celebrities and teenagers alike. They are easy to wear and so effortlessly cute.

Most coordinating sets don’t need too many accessories because they are already so bold and fun. The outfit I found has blue and white polka dots with eyelet detailing and is perfect for a soft summer vibe. I paired this set with simple white sandals that are super summery, and I kept my accessories to a minimum by wearing diamond stud earrings and matching blue aviator sunglasses. The bows on the back of my set gave a girly touch to my overall look.

When shopping for a two-piece set that’s perfect for you, look for colors that complement your skin tone. Also, make sure it fits properly. If they are too big or too small, the look won’t be as flattering. The gap in between the top and bottom should be kept minimum for a classy look. Whatever you choose, two-piece outfits are sure to keep you cool and looking fashion forward this summer.

A Modern Take on a Retro ’50s Style

Who can deny the elegance and grace of the fabulous fashions of the 1950s? The women of the ‘50s were blessed with having icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor to look up to in clothing. As one of my favorite eras in fashion, the trends of the ’50s continue to inspire my apparel decisions today. I am constantly trying to recycle the exceptional trends of our history. If there is a fashion decade I would choose to travel back to, it would, of course, be the ’50s due to its feminine flare, classy vibe, and ever so glamorous feeling. In this article, I will show you how I incorporated the trends of the ‘50s into today’s style. I challenge you to try this with your favorite fashion era because there is too much history in fashion. The trends will simply never leave us.

When I think of the 1950s, the very first quality I imagine is the beautiful full skirts. Achieving the hourglass shape was huge during the ‘50s, and this was done by having a cinched waistline complete with a full skirt. A look similar to Dior’s New Look was sought after. I went about this trend by beginning my outfit with this flirty floral midi. The ‘50s were very conservative, but the skirt brought a modern feel with the fun pattern and the bright yellow color. On top, I added a simple cropped button up. The gingham pattern was widely popular for decorating in the 1950s, and this summer it has come to life again. Gingham-patterned apparel has blown up and is a major trend of summer 2017. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns. People often think patterns should be separated, but it is so unexpected and exciting to put them together. My tip is to take two of your favorite patterned items and try wearing them together for a change. You will be surprised by the unique feel it brings to your style.

As I mentioned before, 1950s fashion was very conservative. The best way to modernize these styles and make them your own is to add your best bold accessories. The shoes I picked for this outfit are a pair of bright pink vintage Manolo Blahniks. Now, this vintage set of shoes is not originally from the ‘50s, but the style reminds me so much of the era due to their pointed toes and little bows. These shoes have absolutely become my obsession this summer. I have been finishing off pretty much every outfit with some sort of bold earrings this summer. I completed this retro outfit with some funky tassel earrings. I have noticed that big, brightly colored earrings have become a major trend, and I am loving it! Now for my quick 1950s beauty blurb. I couldn’t wear this outfit without attempting some ‘50s beauty. So for my hair, I did a modern take on the famous victory rolls of the 1950s by teasing and pinning back sections. For my makeup, I kept it feminine with a very subtle cut crease which was very popular during the 1950s. Also popular: dramatic black winged eyeliner and bold red lips which I carried out as well. From head to toe, this outfit resembles a ‘50s girl with a modern vibe!

Delicate Details

First off, congrats to everyone for finishing up another semester. For those of you taking summer classes, we’ll get through this together. Finishing spring semester means that we have also survived the snow and the rain that was bound and determined to hinder our style with heavy coats and waterproof makeup. However, summer comes with its own style challenges, mainly the heat.

Staying Cool

Summer is a tricky season to dress for. You want to dress cute without being uncomfortable. Dressing up your basic pieces is a great way to avoid letting the heat interfere with your style. When the temperature hits over 75 degrees, no one really wants to wear anything besides shorts and a tank top, but that doesn’t mean that the outfit can’t be cute. Take a look at this Fashionista’s outfit, she found the perfect way to dress cool while staying cool.

One of this summer’s major trends is delicate details. Delicate details are small feminine touches to basic clothing items that add texture or interest to the pieces.

A trend for this summer is scalloped edges. Scalloped edges, such as the ones on the Fashionista’s shorts, are the perfect feminine touch to any summer ensemble. Instead of putting on a plain tank top, add some more detail by choosing one with elegant knife pleats and a button-down closure.

When the weather starts to get chilly, one solution is to reach for a fun colored summer cardigan. A thin cardigan is the best way to add warmth to an outfit without adding bulk.
